Polish and papers only increase the value however full restoration plus a suitable wooden scabbard Plus the cost of shipping and having a NBTHK kantei would cost in the 5k range hence - have it looked at first by someone knowledgeable IMHO. J.
-
@Rivkin I respectfully disagree. The blade is clearly out of polish .. That I say without any provocation whatsoever @Aarongrant Bob Benson out of Hawai or anyone nearest to you with the same reputation needs to see it IMHO Y

Lots of chikei throughout. I don't see masame in the shinogi, which makes me think - old. Kissaki is rough, measurements/photos of the mune (the thickness of the blade where the ridge starts) could answer more. Old old blade IMHO y

I wouldn't do that personally Maybe ,if others agree, just lightly oil the nakago with pure choji oil without rubbing or scrubbing. Anything else devalues the blade as I was told J.

I personally would not purchase it, with such massive flaw which to me appears fatal. J

Depends on how it came out. If it's not destroyed then I suggest reusing it barring, it doesn't have any rust on the inside. A dedicated professional would know the best route. Not sure if cleanning it would decrease the value so ask Cheers Y.

Paper made shirasaya is probably a good option also IMHO barring the suggested repair of the split doesn't go as planned. The wiggle of the blade of a split Saya as in your case could have many negative impacts on what seems to be recent polish and well taken care of blade with one of the controversial papers issued at the time (my favorite) I'd pursue a TokuHo in the same session at Hozon and then seek a way for a professional evaluation whether the blade is Juyo worthy. Regardless of all above, I really like it and I hope you get to enjoy it as much as most of us are even from the limited photos (well done btw) J. -
Hello There's something really odd about the blade and hamon. Not sure whether it's the light or acid treatment but it is strange Y

My point precisely : The Warring Times, the slightly suriage mono uchi (or kazu-uchi 🤭) that got classified as wakizashi although the fact they had for the most part mainly 24-26" of nagasa for the close combat technique at the time.. Longer ones were the 'traditional' samurai in lame terms. how could a .8 cm short of katana wakizashi not be a katana after the aforementioned facts? Fair price slippery slope .. Y

Thank you. Y

Below https://www.aoijapan...kunbthk-hozon-token/ Would anyone be willing to clear this hurdle once and for all please ? Y

Buy it. This is a spectacular work imho y

I agree with Mr. Doffin. The TokuHo brings guarantees for insurance purposes and extra confidence in the non experienced buyer. Usually, on such blades I always opt out for TokuHo for many reasons Looks fantastic Y.

Hola, It is a wakizashi, if at that length. Bizen Sukesada (in general read of the mei) All the traits of the school are represented in the photos. Could be a nice acquisition, depending on price and detailed measurements description - Yosozaemon had mostly detailed signature and date however times dictated production time so i believe some extravagant examples didnt have 'the time' to bear the detailed signature.. Research 'Jishin mei'. I have a blade with same jitetsu Nice fittings! P.S. I do NOT like the burn mark Y
