  1. Understood. I am more than positive what we own as a whole is far from junk But time will show. Based on everything I have understood so far it is best to go to SF and see what is what. If the scores from the shinsa are good we may pursue it further. Appreciated John
  2. I believe it is nothing but normal to ask about it in case we have never been through the process. It was only a question, no dreaming here! Thank you John
  3. Thank you for the information. My (and his concern) is whether an art object will be held IF it is of such importance... And I am more than positive that there are many TJ held there and then some. His approach is to get it classified as highly as possible for the sake of the provenance - doubt he needs money Also, I have never submitted anything to Japan yet so I know nothing about the process. Most of our specimens do Not have registration cards so that might complicate things further. In few words, we are trying to find the quickest and safest way to get them registered and authenticated by NBTHK or NTHK whenever the CoVID madness is over. Would you recommend hiring the well known names for the NBTHK process or just register and do it ourselves? Thank you again for your patience and insight John
  4. Thank you very much but theoretically if it's submitted to NBTHK, would it be held in Japan and would they take ownership or offer to purchase if it turns out to be that valuable? My dear friend has an extremely important one that comes with provenance and it's been published in numerous books so we wonder what is the best way to get the papers for it??? I am trying to get him to send me photos but he is just waay too private :/ Correct me if I am wrong but the NTHK is great to technically just confirm its authenticity?? Final Q, is Yushuto equal to Juyo or is it an unfair comparison? Thank you John
  5. One question that might have been discussed already: We probably all agree that there aren't many jems still hidden around that are capable of reaching the above tokubetso juyo levels But if one is presented to shinsa, what would happen to it? Please do tell. John
  6. Ultimately it is your money but some people buy these at less than $200 wholesale a piece - brand new, long and in their original machine oil... and considering the sold auctions I dare say my gut check is accurate! John
  7. In my opinion it Looks great But the color of the steel gives me a gut check for a non Japanese made blade! There are 3 known 'dealers' of these blades within the USA so approach it with caution is my friendly suggestion! John

Thank you for the material. I am willing to believe shodai, because of the 'Yasu' kanji (based on what I have read), which in turn, technically, means Chikashige? Please , any knowledge and input is more than appreciated. John

  11. Hola, I am exhausted but, please help me with me the signature at your leisure. Always appreciated, it goes without saying ❤ John
  12. He goes to Japan and buys blades from an old old man for chump change, then he polishes them from the rust and the whole geometry of the blade goes to hell and then resells them.. I am surprised of the huge money his items bring so 'schill bidding' is probably a reasonable suggestion (as what someone here mentioned already). The baby powder he uses for the signatures is ok as his photographer skills are not up to par (not that taking pictures of steel is easy). He has been reliable when it comes to prompt shipping and accepting returns. Knowledgeable but not very thorough. My friend purchased some high end blades from him that were mint and as described but lately all I see are either tired or in 'showa22 proprietary polish' 😂 I have not purchased anything from him yet and based on this discussion I most likely will pass in the future. Just my 2 cents. John
  13. Hello all, I am here mostly to learn the proper approach to the Japanese sword so I most likely will be reading more than posting I have a few interesting examples from different eras that have to be discussed but I will do so when I am ready to participate actively rather than just ask.. Great to be here - cheers John
