Evening gents. Was able to add another nihonto to my small collection over the weekend, nice Showa era sword in normal ww2 army mounts, can I get some help identifying the smith, an acquaintance kind of identified him but apparently there are two listed, thoughts on which smith. Thanks 😉

Gentlemen, been quite some time since I’ve been here or posted, but nihonto is not my main focus and frankly, Japanese swords don’t cross my path to often but I was able to secure this one a few weeks ago, had the tang translated and identified on a militaria site I frequent, my question for the collectors that know swords is this sword worth a possible Polish or leave as is. I’ll be honest, in the long rung I’m going to move it but I just don’t have the knowledge of good, hohum or wow with these. Thanks!

Hello Gents, been quite some time since I have posted here, got this sword back in January, pretty nice polish with a good strong temper, WW2 mounts and BO-HI on the blade, cutting edge measures 27.5 inches with a total blade length of 35 inches, the tang is not signed. Any thoughts on age? Fritz

Here are some additional pictures, one of the tip and the other of the temper. The cutting edge measures 27.25inches and from tip to tang end is 35.5 inches, the thickness at the tang is 3/8 of an inch. Fritz

Gentleman, I hope all is well. Been awhile since my last post but found a sword today, right out of the woodwork and in its storage case(WW2 vet bring back) need some help with the translation, the one end is covered with what looks like mud but could be rust but I'm extremely reluctant to clean it to read. Anyone offer some assistance, thoughts on translation and care of the tang. Thanks Fritz

Thanks guys! I thought this might be a pilots knife or a military utlity knife, hmm, nice sharp little blade. The steel does have flaws in it like a traditional blade might have from carbon deposits, not alot but a few when you look at it closely. Fritz

Hello all, I found this knife over the weekend and have posted it on another site but a friend of mine suggested I try here as well. The knife looks to be well made and is not nihonto but it has a name on it. My question is does anyone have any ideas as to what it might be? I have been told it could be a carpenters tool but I'm not sure, it may be just a utility knife but if it's nothing special per sei why did the maker put his name on it, I'm not trying to pull something out of the air here just trying to fiqure this little bugger out. Thoughts? It did come indirectly from a vetran source. rgds Fritz

I'm glad i didn't give to much for it, I didn't think it was a old one but was looking for it to be at least WW2 vintage. Thanks for the comments guys. Fritz

Hello all, found this today,in it's original storage sheath, not sure how old but the price was right. The tang is not signed but were these signed like katanas? Fritz

Hello all, I know this is not a sword but it is a case for a set of IJA/N periscope binoculars, can someone translate the kanji and let me know what it says? Thanks Fritz

OK, I took this a little over the edge, we're good here. My friend says thanks, i delivered the sword back to him tonight, he's a bit bummed but I think he's ok with it, he'll bring it to a larger show and show it around and get a firm idea. Thanks for the help guys!!! Fritz

OK, I think this posting has gone off topic here, this is not the info I'm looking for here, first off I'm not an ameture dealer, I'm just trying to help a friend with a sword HE bought and thats it nothing more nothing less like I've said before, I'm going to let him know EXACTLY what I have found here. so I'm going to consider this a done topic, thanks for the good info and I'll let him know what he has, which basically is an older blade with a questionable signature that he should take to a larger show to get a better feel for what he bought. Thanks! Fritz

Thanks guys! I will pass this info on to the owner. I appreiciate the info and so does he, Thanks! Fritz

Alrighty then, there must be an issue with this piece, lets just have it please. I posted this for a friend , this piece does not belong to me and I'm just trying to offer some assistance to a friend, plain and simple. as for being a newbie, yes to Japanese swords I am, but to collecting no, I've been collecting swords and military items for over 30 years, trust me no offense taken at all being called a newbie does not bother me a bit. I just like being told the truth and facts, thats all I have asked for here so if there is something wrong just tell me, nobody likes being stung and it's happened to all of us, and if you say you havn't well your lucky. so is there an issue here or is this a good sword, like my origianl post I'm not looking for a dollar fiqure just information no more no less so lets here it please. Thanks Fritz

Thanks, I'll pass this on, I have some more pics of the blade to post later. Sebastian, there is no spot on it like what you see in the pic it's a reflection on the blade, from looking at it it doesn't show any flaws or openings in it. If any more info is out there let me know so I can pass this on. Thanks guys! Fritz
