Many great guesses, and many winners, congrats! I have much to learn. Can anyone figure out the generation? Now for the big question, would you pay for shinsa if you owned this blade?

I will post pictures of the nakago later today/tomorrow. While picture quality is a combination of an old phone camera, bad lighting, and sub par photography skill. The lines are much sharper under natural light with the naked eye but until some professional shots (sibling discount) I cannot provide much better. Mark S- That is a very nice blade. I will try get some better pictures of the hamon but it doesn't look like mine has that pronounced sudare-ba hamon as your pictures show.

My first nihonto. I would like to see what you all think of it any guesses towards the age and maker and why before revealing the mei (no cheating). It came in shirasaya with its koshirae, unfortunately the koshirae didn't belong to the blade (hole almost an inch off). I'm in the process of seeing if its worth it to get a new handle or get the old one re-drilled and also a new tsunagi-habaki made as it was cracked. I am curious if anyone believes this sword is worth submitting to shinsa? I am not great at capturing the beauty of the sword on camera and if needed I can take more photos. So any guesses??? PS: More information upon request

4 Simple tips for taking a better picture. 1) Don't hold the object as the shot won't be steady 2) Use a bright clean white light (a close lamp) or back light of strong natural light 3) Use a single contrasting color as a background (black works well) 4) Try many angles and many shots, post the best. Enjoy

Why do people bid on this crap
Hanito replied to Hanito's topic in Auctions and Online Sales or Sellers
$720 was the was selling price... I feel bad for that buyer. I enjoy pawn stars but tv shows are scripted and reshot even the reality ones. Even many youtubers do reshoots and have scripts. -

So I am hearing this is a no go for $2400? I want the blade to be in great condition and have usable Koshirae
-
Thanks for all the replies. Like I said earlier I am not too experienced but I did notice handle looks newly wrapped which doesn't bother me and might even be a plus to me. I like this package with the blade and it includes both the koshirae and the shirasaya in the package for $2500.

Here's some photos some that show the bare nakago.

Okay got it, I am not experienced to know that but I've heard this about the wakizashi's. My budget is $2,500 for a papered katana, or wakizashi that's sharp and in good polish. I know I am rushing and would do better to save up for a proper nihonto but this is not possible at the time or future. My main intention is to have a beautiful object that can be admired and passed down generations. It does not have to be a show piece just one that is in good shape and will hold its value. Trying to fit that criteria is quite hard. Thanks for your help.

I am new to nihonto and know I do not have much experience and I would like some help in translating the NBTHK papers and to make sure they match the wakizashi. Thank you.
