Hi steve, I would say that's true, luckly theres no inside lights, the top is glass too so only the ceiling light to help brighten the display, and its working really well. the tsuka on the crew gunto is very interesting, I will post some pics

Thanks for the comments guys, but why don't you like the tsuka on the kake? does it damage it ??? it dosent fit the saya correctly as I made the kake for other swords. please let me know if I should change it to prevent possible damage. regards Hamish

the double mekugi ana is pure sue koto sukasada, but the im just a stunned as everyone else with kiyomitsu/katsamitsu why is this not signed, its far higher then most sue period blades regards H

Im abit pissed over this type of behaviour, (I was the under bidder) so abit sour prob too I feel this type of dealer is only but pushing sword collecting closer to the edge, there is already a huge reduction in newcomers due to the sharp increase in price's for no reason, with the heaps of stock on the market and poor economic's world wide, shouldn't the price be lowering to induce spending regards H

if you know some one in Tokyo, ask them to pop into the NBTHK museum, they have small bits for around $25. all modern, and low quality but nice

and don't forget the 99% of the world, who like swords and no nothing about them like the folding latch on a army sword, and the extra heavy knuckle guard, that type of engraving on the backstrap. true the saya is a "ugly as a hat full of asholes", but you can always replace the saya or remove the same. the blade and handle are the main attraction, the saya is abit of a sideshow.

well clearly I will never go though them, at first I tough a harm full mistake but sounds like its a repeat incident, for the buyers premium and commission fees you would think they could have a simple idea of what is fake and real. shame shame shame.

true they did have a long service history, but last time I was Japan I couldn't find any. and evan when asked for Kyu gunto I got a lot of odd looks. evan one store had all military stuff stuffed into a umbrella stand with little care. went to every sword/antique store known in Tokyo and surrounding districts and the only store with quality imperial era stock was the sword store in the antique mall Ginza, just near the train/subway station. great stuff but out of my price range

best of luck, you should have put your hand deeper into you wallet. that was a very good buy for someone. shingunto tassels for field grade are $500+, and taking into account that the earlier Kyu gunto tassel is much easer to damage compared to the shingunto tassel, I would say your going to have to wait a fair while before finding one for that price. and if you do please let me know I would love to get one for that price.
