  3. If these three photographs were all that you had. And the auction house described as: Japanese DAGGER - 19th c. Tanto with unsigned blade, plain bronze fitting, snakeskin covered wooden sheath and handle, 6 3/4' blade, 13 1/2" long overall, corrosion to blade. What,if any, dollar amount would you risk if you liked the shape of the blade? http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f382/ ... 954686.jpg http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f382/ ... 954685.jpg http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f382/ ... 954684.jpg

  5. Thanks to all of you for your advise and comments I will pass on this one. The kabuto is not for sale it was advertised as a Meiji helmet so only a few bidders I got it for $1725.00 I was very happy at that price.Have since found suitable maedate and menpo.
  6. At auction only pics provided, appears right to novice? Would you who know better bid on this item based on the mei? Translation ? If willing to risk a bid what would be your top dollar (if at all) if this was all the information available. Sorry about pic quality they appear much better on my PC but I have never figured out how to transmit or copy from the original (if in fact that is possible) Any thoughts welcome, and thanks in advance ! http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f382/ ... photo1.jpg http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f382/ ... photo2.jpg http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f382/ ... photo3.jpg or first 3 pics : http://s51.photobucket.com/home/steibls200/index

  10. Very new so to clarify? Shinsa submission $100.00 and then if the sword is judged worthy an additional $150.00 for certification? What is the procedure for getting a sword/s on an airplane (and back home via air?) Do swords have to be in polish to be submitted? (I don't mean badly rusted just in need or even dire need of polish) Any other details or recomendations welcome. Thanks
  11. Have been given two different translations of this name and cannot seem to find any references (probably due to my lack of knowledge) May have the opportunity to purchase, blade in dire need of polish, would not want to spend a fortune (limited resources)if this persons work is not know for quality. Any information very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  12. I have a very small collection that I hope will grow. I have negotiated with some US dealers and in some cases reached a lower price through reasonable offers. So far the items I have purchased from Japan have been relatively inexpensive and so I have made a straightforward purchase. However I am also looking at some items in the four figure range and wondering how others may have approached this issue.Your thoughts and if possible those dealers that are open to some negotiation. Thanks.
  13. Brian Barrett was kind enough to search his copy of the Fuller book and ID the dirk as the type issued to senior railway officals with the emblem on the tsuka being a 5-7-5 Kiri ( paulonia imperialis) floret type. Many thanks and regards Brian, George Morgan
  14. Please help,I have tried to obtain a copy of this book via interlibrary loan to id a dirk. No luck. I do not have (or cannot find MS Paint) on my PC and probably would have a tough time following the instructions on how to modify my picture to be honest.. I have a picture that I can send to anyone who might be kind enough to look through their copy. I do know that the mon is not the navy one. Thanks in advance. George Morgan AKA steib@charter.net
  15. I am so impressed by the almost immediate response to my queries. Would anyone care to identify this most recent signature and suggest if it might be worthy of purchase? I will add two more photos, poor qualiy but all that might help. And what can I offer this board in return for everyones kindness?
  16. Reference the comment by Sai Jo Saku. Are all signatures that appear off center gimei? I have attached another different sword for sale at auction.
