  1. Does anyone have any information as to Florida Token-Kai, Shinsa, or Nihonto shows for 2021? Just trying to plan my 2021 travel. I'm located in South Carolina, so ANY shows in Florida, Georgia, North or South Carolina are of interest. I may be going to the Ohio Valley Military Society Show of Shows in Louisville, KY. Feb 17-21. I haven't been there in 6 years, but it is a huge show of military antiques, with plenty of Nihonto to be found. On the same weekend, in an adjoining convention center, is the National Gun Day. I have found quite a few nihonto there amongst the guns. Thanks to all in advance!
  2. an oshigata of another Katsukiyo katana
  3. You are welcome! I hope it is a beautiful blade. You may have a hand made blade. Do not confuse with traditional tamahagane, hand-forged and water tempered blade though. Your blade may be hand-worked mill steel that was water or oil quenched. Feel free to post more pics of the blade and mounts.
  4. Sho Wa Ju Hachi Nen Shichi Gatsu Showa = 1926 Ju = 10 Hachi = 8 Nen = Year Shichi = 7 gatsu = Month 18th year, 7th month of Showa is July 1943
  5. Link to another post about this same smith.
  6. I was trying to see the tiny stamp at the top, but could not quite make it out. Correct me if I'm wrong, but is this the original post a tachi-mei, opposite of the oshigata below? Naga Mura Kane Kiyo Saku The pic below is an oshigata I found for the same smith.
  7. Moley, The tanto I am working with is well before the Showa time frame so hard to match the two kanji from vastly different eras. I can say that the way the Showa smith chiseled the "tsuna" is similar to the mei in question. Thanks for your input.
  8. How do you pronounce that kanji?
  9. So far I've had: tsuna tsugu michi All are close, just can't find a match.
  10. I just cannot seem to find the second character in any of my books or online references. Sorry, but this is the best pic I have from my phone at the moment. I can take a better one when I get home from work. Thanks to all, you are much appreciated!
  11. Now I know. Much appreciated!
  12. I'm not interested in buying this sword, but I look at inscriptions to test myself on translations. I came across this katana on eBay and the date seems off to me. Best I can tell, the date is Man-en ku nen. Since Man-en was only 1860, and Bunku was 1861, wouldn't it be impossible to have a Man-en 9? Help me educate myself!
  13. Not much doubt that the signature is real, I was just unable to find an exact match to the signature so I can't pin down the exact Kanenao it is. Here are all three I found, to compare side by side with yours.
  14. Sho wa Showa is period beginning 1926 Ju 10 Shichi 7 Nen Year Shichi 7 Gatsu Month Hi Day So, A day in the 7th month of 1943 I found 3 Kanenao working during Showa. All three examples used a full signature, not just the name. I posted the oshigata of the signature that looks closest in style to the original post. I found no exact match though. Hope this helps. Dan
  15. Hey Ron! i see you are also native to South Carolina. I am just outside of Charleston. Where are you located? I'm always looking for others to share info with and help with collections.
  16. I also have Dawson's book, but it was stuck under many other Japanese sword reference books. i will admit, the Fuller & Gregory book was closer to the top, and thicker, so I only looked through that one reference. I gotta quit being so lazy. lol I think I will probably pass on this deal due to the scabbard missing the brass covering on the end, literally letting the blade stick out.
  17. Yeah, I noticed that. I think that kind of kills any value of it.
  18. I stumbled upon a sword for sale near me that I am unable to match to any of the diplomat swords in Fuller & Gregory Military Swords of Japan. It seems to fall into the category of Diplomat sword, but the decorations are different than any of the pics in the book. (Dragonfly). The one side of the hand guard looks to have half of the police rising sun emblem. Just wondering if anyone has any additional info on this. Nihonto is my main collection, but I can get this fairly cheap to broaden my collection. Much Appreciated in Advance!
  19. Thank you Kelly, I think I'm just going to wait.
  20. I see the resemblance.
  21. Neither have I. I had to look at it a few times to really understand that it would actually hold a kodzuka blade.
  22. Are you saying to have my items sent to you, then you send to me with your DHL contract?
  23. I was just looking through ebay and found this unusual kozuka. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Japan-antique-Edo-period-Goto-school-Shishi-Dragon-Kozuka-Shibuichi-Box-sword/324204218015?_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D225074%26meid%3D5aaa6ac6a70447c586d82c2cc8fa18e9%26pid%3D100675%26rk%3D6%26rkt%3D15%26mehot%3Dnone%26sd%3D324297817121%26itm%3D324204218015%26pmt%3D0%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D2380057&_trksid=p2380057.c100675.m4236&_trkparms=pageci%3Addfe4350-f91c-11ea-a4f3-74dbd1803c93|parentrq%3A9d9009871740aaa32b8411f9fffccf00|iid%3A1
