Very interesting Rob. I was never what it's worth not verified?

And yet if you had that Hendrix guitar broken or not it would be worth a lot of money.😊

I'd say bats rather than geese. When the wings curve to that degree it's usually bats. Geese are less rounded.

Likely cast then hand finished to give the look of a well made piece.

Oh believe me there are fakes out to there.

Apologies it's meant to be 1954 soap bar P90 both were in cream, single coil , Anyway I sold it shortly after buying it years ago so barely remember any longer.

I'm pants at tetsu tsuba but recently picked this up as I think it's in nice condition. Any ideas what I have? I appreciate it's Shoki the Oni/demon queller ergo the very Chinese look to the protagonist. Also is it possible to fix the scratches on the shakudo plug? Thank you Adam

And now something completely different

I would suggest a poor repair as this finish is prone to separate. It would not have originally been glued. -
I guess so yet I bought a Gibson Les Paul recording ten years ago that had evolved through time . The low impedance pickups were replaced with 1954/55 p90's Other than that it was original. The pickups were worth a bit on their own. But thank you I understand better now. I've a kambun Shinto wakizashi coming in with huge kissaki I just wondered if due to its unusual kissaki it might be better than the usual.

I wonder if anyone can explain why I often hear the statement "oh it's not very interesting or valuable, it's just a kambun Shinto sword"

Can you please provide sugata side A&B and tell me you estimate in date. When the nakago was grinded mechanically the heat generated has left a sort of rainbow effect around the habaki. Can you zoom in to the areas grinded so that I can see how this might have affected the nakago? Thank you Adam

I've just sold a Koshirae that has Fuchi kashira done in this way. It's actually a very good look. The gold shines through and adds to the depth of field. He should buy this to finish that Koshirae off. Images should still be on the listing "Edo period Koshirae for sale" -
The photos Piers are dead links. This renders the thread useless for future reference. Can you please embed them?

It doesn't look older than Shinto to me. What leads you to the evaluation of mid Kamakura which seems a giant leap? Christian is spot on the sugata is not Kamakura.

What is the name of the smith on my Naginata blade.
Babu replied to Caracal's topic in Translation Assistance
The shape of these later naginata are not represented in that nice reference John. The turn back is wide and pronounced. I can see all of those making a nice sugata for naginata naoshi but not these much later ones. The one I had was in koshirae of approx 6ft 6 inch pole. With the blade on, this was another 18inch to 8 ft in total. The Nakago was longer than the blade as mine was ubu. Found a slightly better image -
It's interesting the surface texture is not represented in the book so this must be as the client requested. I think a plain ground would have been better for this tsuba but that's just personal taste. Lovely polished shibuichi would have been excellent.

Thank you it proves it was as set as I thought. Thats brilliant!

What is the name of the smith on my Naginata blade.
Babu replied to Caracal's topic in Translation Assistance
Very similar to one I had recently which was Mino. Very much designed for a lady to use. Light and very similar shape. These would be very difficult to reshape into naginata Naoshi as they are relatively short and the turn back is steep. -
Put it in the translation section. Someone will.
