  1. First I would like to thank you for your help so far with the mei and tsuba. Now here is the blade. As I am not interested in selling it I really just want to know if it is a quality piece and approximate age. I got it as a gift so my feelings won't be hurt as I'm not out any money. It looks nice to me but I really don't know anything about these. Looking forward to your expert advice. for reference: Mei: viewtopic.php?f=15&t=3266 Danny L. pics of blade: http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii13 ... ord019.jpg http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii13 ... ord020.jpg http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii13 ... ord021.jpg http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii13 ... ord022.jpg http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii13 ... ord023.jpg http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii13 ... ord024.jpg http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii13 ... ord025.jpg http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii13 ... ord026.jpg http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii13 ... ord027.jpg

So this is still an antique (more than 100 years old)? What kind of value does a piece like this have? It was a gift but I like it anyways so it will be with me forever. I assume it is brass? I'm sorry I don't know all the terms yet. I still have yet to photograph the handle, sheath, and entire blade but will when I have time. Thanks again guys!! Danny L.

    Here are some more pics. I can attempt more but I cannot focus manually so this is probably the best. Without further hesitation: http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii13 ... ord013.jpg http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii13 ... ord014.jpg http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii13 ... ord015.jpg http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii13 ... ord016.jpg http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii13 ... ord017.jpg

I would be more than happy to provide any other pics as needed. Let me know what views would you like. I will also scan the handle and other fittings when I have some time. Thanks for your help. Danny L.

As I am new at this I am asking for your opinions on this tsuba. Is it original to my sword? What does the art represent? meaning? What is it made of? Thanks for any help. For reference this is the blade here. viewtopic.php?f=15&t=3266 Here is a scan of the front and back of the tsuba: http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii13 ... ntback.jpg Danny L.
  7. A this is my first post I would like to thank you in advance for any and all help. As a child I was always curious and interested in the mystique surrounding the samurai and their weaponry. I never thought I would own a possibly real katana but about two weeks ago my ffather surprised me with this sword. While being a bit pessimistic about it's authenticity, I gratefully accepted this gift as it was very kind of him. Any help translating this inscription and possibly verifying it's authenticity as a real Japanese katana is appreciated. I have taken this sword apart to scan the tang as it is very difficult to photograph. I will post pics of the other pieces in the proper forum in the future. Thanks again. http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii133/lx460/mei4.jpg
