  1. Just sharing some of my recent acquisitions over the past couple months while being stuck home. Thanks to Covid I have too much time on my hands and its really reeking havok on my bank account... Apologies on the poor cell phone pictures, il be working on individual shots soon.
  2. Akin to the first scratch on a new car, yes it stings, but we learn to live with it and move on. No appreciation for your blade need be lost, its still a beauty that can be adorned, studied and passed on
  3. Thanks for the kind words, can't wait to get it in hand ????
  4. My contribution, a recent Enomoto Sadayoshi acquisition thats currently in route to Tirado for shirasaya. Unique specs and characteristics, which happen to align with my personal taste, were requested by Iaido/Kendo master Mr. Sekiguchi who originally commissioned the piece to celebrate his 6th Dan back in the 80s. http://www.sword-auction.jp/en/content/as18465-%E5%88%80%EF%BC%9A%E6%98%AD%E5%92%8C%E4%B8%99%E5%AF%85%E7%A7%8B%E6%B9%A7%E6%B0%B4%E5%BF%83%E8%B2%9E%E5%90%89%E4%BD%9C%E7%84%A1%E9%91%91%E6%9F%BB-katanashowa-hinoe-tora-yusuishin-sadayoshi-sakumukansa

  9. Hi Scifighter, May I first ask, have you read up or studied nihonto much yet? You will often hear your first blade should be alternatively spent in books. Below is one of my favorites to get you going. https://www.amazon.com/Connoisseurs-Book-Japanese-Swords/dp/1568365810 Study, study, study and look at as many blades as possible online and in person if possible. Your studied brain/eyes and experience viewing blades and their costs will aid you in your first purchase so that it will hopefully be a piece that you will not soon tire of. Ebay is full of counterfeit and fakes. Avoid it like the plague until you have some good experience. Along with the NMB site, there are a lot of others that sell traditional nihonto, a few are listed below: https://www.aoijapan.com/ https://www.toukenkomachi.com/index_en_tachi&katana.html https://www.Japanese-sword-katana.jp/ https://www.tsuruginoya.com/artwork.html http://www.nihonto.us/ http://swordsofjapan.com/ http://yakiba.com/welcome.htm https://www.japanswordart.com/?fbclid=IwAR2lY2aI0iscLkeVPPVXGkij81QHe0EMpo-uyVFjcqSQmpkHDw1SGZsRacs https://soryu.pl/ https://www.raindragonfineartandantiques.com/swords-sword-fittings https://www.touken-matsumoto.jp/eng/index_e.php Hope this helps!

  11. Beautiful work! Dimensions coming?
  12. Here is a beautiful example for sale, a collaboration between Sadayoshi and his son Sadahito in late 97 right before Sadayoshi passed. https://www.tsuruginoya.com/items/a00520.html?fbclid=IwAR1PR37F2XoGdeI55FJsHhI08b48gbg2WAsKk9GJyVpcKqqQRDe-z3k3i2o
  13. Example of an amazing Shibata-Ka that Ray has for sale: https://www.facebook.com/groups/305588459972011/permalink/780559032474949/ https://yuhindo.com/shibata-ka/?fbclid=IwAR2kQKmlp1sJf49Izjku_6cUDSTmooW6_4WelAG9sbC3CkkDHBjw_pKT09U
  14. Living or not, curious what everyone's favorite smiths are from the 20th century. Feel free to share any examples I've never paid much attention to them until just recently. Minamoto Moriyoshi is going to be an obvious choice but ive also found Shibata Ka's story very interesting. The idea that he was so successful being self taught from studying of his own collection is just fascinating! https://yuhindo.com/shibata-ka/
  15. Amazing Ray, thank you again!!
  16. Hi folks, Anyone able to help piece this together or guess based on what we can see? This is currently where I am at thanks to Ray's assistance: Enzhou _ shima fujihara _ _ made (濃州 _ 島藤原近 _ _ 長造之) Thanks!
  17. Thanks Ray, I have been in communication with Bob, he seems to use Tanobe but I'll follow up to clarify if he has an alternative for those not fit for Tanobe ????
  18. Good morning, For those blades not fit to send to Tanobe Sensei, are there any sayagaki alternatives with experience within the US than can provide the service based on provided NBTHK or NTHK papers? Thank you!
  19. I hope to pickup a quality kamakura piece someday but my collection is still in its infancy so this muromachi blade is my oldest at the moment. Shes a bit tired but im a sucker for a gorgeous itame-mokume mix https://www.toukenkomachi.com/index_en_tachi&katana_A070718.html
  20. Thanks again and no worries, please don't trouble your self! ????
  21. Thanks MK! Any thoughts on the bottom right of dai and too right sho? There are lighter kanji on the top left of both dai and sho as well.
  22. Welcome Mark! Are you already setup with reference materials?
  23. Thanks Ken, I think so too Anyone able to translate the large Motif/Kanji characters?
