  1. Unfortunately not really what my available funds are allocated for but it is tempting for the price ????
  2. Agreed, this is a great price, people probably gun shy to deal with customs right now.
  3. Is that grease the blade is covered in? Edit: never mind, missed that part of your description
  4. Width at the Hamachi and Kissaki?
  5. Surprised this hasn't gone yet! Are dimensions still in the works?
  6. I believe soft antler is the only method to help remove active nakago rust.
  7. Classy fittings
  8. I hope his collection went to well informed family or friends. Too bad it probably won't stay within the NMB community.
  9. Oh my, I've got some reading to catch up on!
  10. Indeed a bargain, someone will be very happy to give this a new home. I love seeing pieces trade hands and be appreciated by many vs sitting in one closet for decades
  11. Love that hamon!
  12. Bug bummer indeed but we saw it coming
  13. Lovely piece here, went fast!
  14. Maybe its just the great photos but the carvings look very crisp, I like it
  15. Great piece!
  16. Hi Jason, The cutting potential is unlocked with proper technique. At the highest level, its the slicing motion as opposed to a baseball bat swing that really helps get through the target cleanly. The blade geometry and target material has an impact as well. Certain blades are better suited or even purpose built to cut certain materials (tatami vs bamboo for example). Thanks,
  17. Another question out of curiosity, I am seeing a distinct straight line within the primary bo-hi near the nakago. I cant tell if its low enough where the habaki would cover it but it almost looks like a different material or perhaps a break where the polish ends?
  18. I've seen some modern pieces with fuchi/kashira/tsuba fittings done in damask but I'm really digging the darker black with brown/orange.
  19. I can see merit for both sides of the coin here, however telling someone their piece may be worth a fortune or straight up saying its gimei without proper explanation can be a bit deceiving or falsely build up their expectations. Excited to see the pictures after polish
  20. I'm a bit confused, and perhaps its just the lighting and how its coming through the camera, but the texture and buildup on the nakago looks older than the patina coloration. I cant make out the file marks very well due to the buildup but the patina doesn't look all that dark, a bit conflicting? The second picture looks darker then the first so perhaps im crazy?
  21. Hi Phil, Koshirae would be in full functional saya and mounting (with tsuba, sepa, fuchi, kashira, and tsuka handle typically wrapped in samegawa, silk ito and menuki)), shirasaya like this piece is typically for storage. In my very limited experience i have also seen 2 habaki similar to this with cutouts of different shapes (moon). Not very common but they do exist.
  22. Had my wife watch this before to help her understand ????
  23. Very unique saya indeed!
  24. I would leave the nakago(tang) be, it's meant to patina with age.
  25. Would you call that a double bo-hi of sorts or is there a specific term for that type? It's very interesting, must be quite uncommon?
