Kanji signature characters on the thin edge of nakago
Shuriken replied to Shuriken's topic in Military Swords of Japan
@Kiipusorry for delay as holidays caughtup with me. Here are pics of the Mantetsu sword. Also @Bruce Pennington -
I'm going to hazard a guess, looking at beautiful swords from this smith, that whatever original sword that once was in this saya, is long gone and replaced with the one pictured.

Went gold and happy supporting this amazing forum and appreciative of the admins and members here. I'm Dave, new, but like all, kaizen--a little more learning every day! Here's a new one for me. Mune kanji, and perhaps a star stamp or "M" as seen in @Bruce Pennington file on Mantetsu blades. But the nakago mei do not seem to match Mantetsu date kanji. Pics to peruse and enjoy. Sword first:

@Ray Singerwhoa! Wasn't expecting that. Thank you for the translation; it sure does appear to match others. If you'll forgive the xtra question, can you or anyone translate the kanji on the guard/pommel--I don't think on the naval sword this would be called a tsuba-- apologies in advance as I don't know the term. I'm acquiring a batch of swords of unknown provenance; this is one Mei. Quite short--can anyone shed any light? Thank you!

Fascinating. And excellent--I learned this is a 1940-issue blade. Thank you! -

Thanks @Bugyotsuji -
Thank you Kiipu. Even as a newbie, it didn't seem to fit the bill as a surrender tag.

Attached is mine. Can anyone shed light on this? Being all kanji, I'm confused, as I thought surrender tags had information in English.
