Hi looking for help with this yari blade, I know nothing about them, so have literally no clue or age of this. Very long tang which seems typical. Overall length 47 CMS, blade 11 CMS. Visible darkened panel to each face of trianglular blade. Many thanks for any help

Thanks very much Ray.

Just took some oil off it, no patina damage, it's mainly the lighting

Ainu swords or knives, preferably the former

Thanks for the help. I thought it was a long shot. It is covered in a lot of grease, should I take this off ?could make it more legible. Obviously without changing the patina. I assume none of the sig is cut off/missing

I'll try my best hard to get it sharp really as it's very worn

I don't really understand what any of the above comments means to be honest. Must look at my terminology book. Saiha is re-tempering, how does that relate to blade shape or curvature? Ok I have been reading about this now on the forum and understand. So I can assume the curvature is not original, the hamon is not original and there is no way of knowing what the sword is or how old at all?

Sadly the measurements are right, it's fairly small and lightweight more like a toothpick than a sword. Can't see any grain at all sadly but the hamon is clearly very visible. Thanks for the comments, so probably later muromachi period?

Hi would like some help to id age and any other info about this blade? It's very small and light, I'm guessing has been substantially shortened from the look of the tang. Thnx for any info. Overall length 71, nagasa 56 cms

Very interesting, yes at first glance I thought it was a piece of 20thc trash in the style but the details are pretty nice. Very clever work really to make it look high quality

Hi I wonder if anyone can identify and date this signature on the bottom of a tanto? I think the applique may actually be gold or gold plated, seems to be high quality work. Many thanks if so

Oh well back to the drawing board lol. It's old enough for the iron to patinate naturally over the top so as old as the sword is I think

wow yes now you mention it that would explain the striations and the huge impact force. Just been having a look at bullet rifling marks and almost identical I think. need a forensic ballistics expert. actually I think I might know one.. I'll give him a shout

Thanks geraint so not easy to place it in a school. Appreciate the explanation. I think technically the sword is a short wakizashi although it feels like a large tanto. It's a really nice quirky piece, with a Zen line carved into the blade which I think is muromachi, a nice animal kashira, the saya partially damaged by a sword cut which for me adds to the history of the piece

Can no one really advise on the age and school of this tsuba? My question was really about the tsuba not the dent in it ..
