Thanks Faust. The thickness should be about 5 cm, but I can give this exact information in next weeks, as I have the tsuba in another house. I got it from a big private collector. I can say It was seen by an important anr renowed togishi who said is very nice, but no papers.

I would like your kind opinion about this matter. In generale tsuka /koshirae have 2 menuki , one for each side. As I have a single nice menuki, I thought to make a koshirae with just one menuki. The idea is to put the menuki on the visible side , as the sword would be put on a kake / support. Ok, the best would be to have one menuki from both side, but as there will be just one the visible display side, I think could be fine for me. I'm not interesting in a future commercial value. It is for me. What you think about? Thanks in advance

Andrew G, what you want to do is something really great!!!! To return the sword is something great , a truly a noble gesture. A world with people like you would be a better world. If you can not find the old owner, you could return to a Japanese museum for preservation of Japanese swords. Although it will be a great remember….most people forget that those swords were not gifts, but they were stolen to people. Those swords for them were more than just art or collection pieces....
