Even if it is not authentic, would it be worth the restorations because pf artistic and historic values? I mean, is the smith's work worth enough if the mei is not genuine? I think it is, but I'm no expert.
-
I haven't found anything else forged by this smith, but he did exist back then, as it's found in a few books and the nihonto club smith list. I will take better pictures later today or maybe tomorrow, as long as time and family allows. "Mihara ju Masaie saku".

I'm amazed by your knowledge (all of you). I have a lot to learn.
-
BTW, it's a Muromachi (Koto) wakizashi, ubu.
-
@Ray Singer it's true I can guess it is there when looking at the pictures but I cannot while looking for it with my eyes... I mean, the hamon is clearly seen unlike the boshi. Polisher fault? Nihonto fault? Maybe smith's fault or even my own? Are you seeing the kaeri? Because I'm not... I'll try to get better pictures tomorrow anyway. About the kissaki, I do not think it has been reshaped, what is your opinion on that matter? Thank you very much for taking the time to answer. It's really appreciated.
-
Hello all, I acquired this wakizashi a few years ago and I noticed I can't find a clear boshi. My fear is has been reshaped rather than a bad polish. What do you think? It also looks like the habaki has been "polished" as it looks like it has some remnants of some kind of rain decoration. The seller said it was in original polish when I bought it but... I don't know if that is true. What is your opinion on the subject?

What's the opinion about Giorgio?
-
I would't care about shipping it anywhere but I'm afraid of customs, as it's hard to ship, and even harder to import blades into Spain if they are not coming from Europe.
-
Good day collectors, Would be possible to know any good habaki makers within Europe (CE) so I can make a new one or restore the one I have? (spoilers: it has a crack). Thank you very much in advance.

https://www.bpost.be/ Aslo the classic UPS, DHL, etc.

Yes,I know about the long term storage ????

The thing is that if I have to send to an expert the blade to have the saya made, then I'll rather have everything made by him. The problem I'm seeing is the import/export laws for weapons in my country, which are really severe. Anything received from outside Europe will be inspected by customs, specially blades/guns. So I think my options IN Europe are really... none? How much does a good koshirae costs? (I don't need it to be a museum piece) I've read it does cost around 1k to 2k €/$? Best regards,
-
Sounds like I have a lot to read first. Thank you for the input.
-
That's not a mei but a full book!
-
Then I think I'll take advice from the expert... Anyway, I would love to learn about all the work involved in the making of a traditional koshirae.
-
Good morning all (night in the USA), I recently acquired a wakizashi (nihonto) with shirasaya and would like to have a koshirae made. It's dificult to have the sword shipped from/to Spain so I was thinking, as I've worked in carpentry, to try to make my own koshirae by myself following the traditional proccess and materials for it. What I'm asking here is a little bit of help finding pages of genuine information about the making of a koshirae, if possible. Of course, I'm making my own research but I will appreciate any kind of help you could provide. Thank you very much in advance

Hi Geraint, I did not buy the tachi, so I can sell it either, first I asked a trusted person for advice so I dismissed it. What he told me is that he had a guy in Japan who senda these "nihonto" to him to be polished because he was a well known one. Once received he check them and repair what has to be repaired and then, he makes the shirasaya and/or the koshirae if needed. That's what he told me around 12-13th september. I deleted the conversation and the contact when this another guy told me it was fake, but I kept the pictures. He also has some more "nihonto" at second hand pages, some of them for something like 7,000€ (8,000$?). Carlos M.

Are these pictures from the same polisher? I think yes because of the instagram pictures. Thia person was trying to sell this for 3000€ and told me he was going to make a shirasaya for it and was restoring the habaki with some gold. He told me he was a well known and respected polisher, but he wrote spanish with some italian words. I guess he's the same person, but I'm not sure.
-
He's also sellong them through second hand pages. I contacted him and he sent me pictures of a false tachi. I'll post them later today to confirm they're the same.
-
I think the polisher lives in Spain. I almost bought him an unoapered tachi for around 3000€...

Hello, I have been in Japan looking for some blades but I have never studied them. I'm studying them now. I'm an antiques collector, not just swords. Which books would you recomend?
-
I'll take a look at it, it's a really nice sword. Also, do you think the one for 1800€ has a gimei? Looks legit to me but I'm not an expert.
-
I also have been looking for this one: Price is 1800 € shipped which is around 1985 $. From Poland so no customs.
