Opinions on a sword blade and nakago

Morning all Since this forum has taught me a lot about these swords I thought I would ask an important question about a sword I wish to buy. The blade looks good in my opinion and it has very nice fittings with a nice saya in leather. What’s your thoughts on the nakago, it looks like it might have been cleaned to reveal the makers mark. I’ve been told the sword maker won a tournament in Japanese for sharpest sword in 1941. What’s your thoughts, has the nakago maybe being cleaned lessened the value of this piece as I really like the hamon on it. Thanks In advance - D

My Christmas Present finally Came In!

Beautiful piece Bruce Congratulations Sir -
Thankyou Brian The unsigned blade is really something very beautiful In hand, the blade is very unique to look at. I looked up hitatsura and it pretty much matches the pictures. The Hamon is naturally formed ? - Dean

Also thanks for the advice and kind comments - Dean

Not that I know of but as the other side is black I’m Guessing he may have cleaned it to unveil the mei. Both Tanto’s where in poor condition when found as can be seen by the saya’s so I got them professionally stone cleaned to save them.

Evening all Thought I would show these 2 Tanto’s ? They where bought home by American vets after the war. The one with the black lacquered saya was found in a cave on Iwo Jima wrapped in a flag. I have the flag also. The other one I have no history on it. Both had some very light surface rust so I sent them away to be stone polished the traditional way, it cost me a small fortune but I wanted it done correctly. Both are very very sharp and have some beautiful crystals in them, I’m guessing these ones are traditionally made ? I look forward to your comments - Dean

Just to add there are no nicks in the blade and it’s been oiled and looked after, no rust

Afternoon all and a very happy new year to you, I was given this sword which is in amazing condition a year ago by a friend. The blade has a beautiful Hamon and blade with an equally beautiful saya. the colours are strong and it’s been kept in its bag and stored correctly. The tang is not signed but has the file marks for being hand forged I’m told, Could I please have some opinions on this sword and a rough price as I will be putting it up for sale, also if anyone is interested please feel free to contact me thanks in advance D
