  1. I think the paper says Shinshinto Kaifu so it was made in the late edo period after 1800. I cant say more then it looks nice because there would be much more clear closeup pictures of the sword necessary and i dont know much about the Kaifu school.
  2. Sunagashi on my Ko- Uda at different places and different light.
  3. If you want to see them look at the reflection pictures that show the Hamon. Since his wife (?) does the Oshigata they lost quality in my opinion.
  4. Wich one is the better Suguha ? Nie Deki with a wide Hamon or a narrow Nioi Deki one ? And then one would ask can the Electron Microscope tell wich Hataraki improve my sword or not ? I think all this questions were answered in the past by actual use and they came to the conclusions that led to what we today desire in Nihonto because that is what made them good weapons on the battlefield.
  5. Bosscleo when you speak of (maybe) worth the Restauration i would like to know what you calculated to come to this conclusion. I don’t think polishing this blade would be a financially wise decision.
  6. I dont have much knowledge but from my observations the whole piece is in my opinion not on the same level other Yokoya works i have seen are. It is just my impression from viewing the pictures online and would like to know what you other guys think about this. For example crumbled lines and the always visible appearance of the chisel marks inside the lines, sometimes they are intentional but not on this piece in my opinion. I like the Tsuba anyway dont get me wrong and i just want to learn.
  7. At this part of the tip should be only the steel from the edge no matter what construction method was used. Also I would put the Diagramm you posted away bruce. Some of the construction methods are a real thing but they lack any proof and in the end matters nothing at all in my opinion. Soshu Kitae is the most cringe part of this Diagramm and evolved from Wikipedia and Chinese replica sellers talking s**t. Also the Makuri technique comes to a similar result as Kobuse but is considered the faster method but is more prone to Mune ware in my opinion. I’m not interested in telling my opinion on this whole Diagramm over and over again i simply hate it and have said it too often already I think this info is better http://www.ksky.ne.j...99/construction.html John how can you tell that it is not simple ware in the edge steel part ?
  8. How about not looking for a future project but for a in polish and authenticated blade if you want to learn something about Nihonto ?
  9. This guy is on Instagram and does a lot of different things with Mokumegane
  10. Looks like someone filed away the signature and ruined the whole appearance of the Nakago. Can you show us the full blade without Habaki ?
  11. In most cases we would need to see more of the actual blade to make a guess but looking how the distance between the signature and the mune gets wider while going down and the fact that the blade was sold by Komonjo make me think gimei. You can check if it has Mishina boshi and how the Hamon starts and show us a picture of the sugata.
  12. Evidence ?? why does all the cast Tsuba shown don’t show evidence of being mounted at some point ?
  13. It’s inlaid and filed on surface level with the Nakago, what is normal. the picture shows that some of the inlay fell out
  14. I think authenticated examples are a much better resource https://markussesko....nal-support-program/
  15. Looks like naginata naoshi to me, so maybe a shortned Naginata or made in this style.
  16. I think most kajihei works simply paper as what he tried to copy
  17. Yea normal appearance of Hadori in bad light i would say if you are unsure if it could be some hardening effect you should look at the Kissaki, it doesn't get the Hadori makeup.
  18. Here is what I talk about and here is the same blade 2 years later with only regular maintenance with uchiko and oil.
  19. What you have is much more then the „spider webs“ Bruce. Maybe I can dig up some old pictures later when I find time. The spider webs are some white staining that is not really visible from every angle but very prominent when looking at the Hamon of a blade.
  20. The circled gold inlay seems to be pressed flat by the seppa, I think it is indeed a little higher but the tree is on the same level. I tried to show with my lazy smartphone skills how i think it looks in the crosssection. Edit: it is very lazy and the drawings are not very accurate especially the lower red line where the right side of the groove should be more like 90degrees
  21. Wow Alfie your post is a ragebait or just advertising Chinese junk ?
  22. Maybe I’m far too optimistic but what I see is an Osuriage Nanbokucho Sugata.
  23. I would say it is older then Ww2 and maybe shinshinto but this is only a guess. It’s very hard because of the messed with Nakago and there is really not much more to look at. Without the machiokuri I think it would be koshizori and could be much older but many shapes had revivals and one must see the steel and hardening to find out more. That’s all I can say sorry.
  24. You could post a picture of the full blade without Habaki, so we can see the shape. But there is no unique ww2 Sugata and most look like older shapes what makes it hard to judge the age without seeing clear pictures of the polished steel. example of Sugata picture
  25. I don’t know but the blades look good, maybe not what they claim but who knows. 6 days left, we will see where this goes.
