Modern swords and stamp removal
DoTanuki yokai replied to Paz's topic in General Nihonto Related Discussion
I think many stamps were removed to sell showato as Nihonto. Not traditional blades look different and some say an oil quenched blade has darker spots at the top of the Yakiba. For finding removed stamps look at the places where they should be located and in most cases the removing process leave traces. And if you are not sure if it is Showato or Nihonto, if it does not look good enough, it is most likely not a good art sword Showato or Nihonto. Yasukunito don’t have a stamp. They are signed Nijimei and if not special swords signed above the Mekugiana. But the army also used the RJT Programm and the blades made for the war effort this way are stamped with a Star and most likely traditional Nihonto. -
The polish looks really good but I wonder how the old polish looked when the attribution is so different ? Very nice to see this awesome Wide Nioiguchi and the quality of the Jigane and thanks for Posting the pictures.

I think the kanji used in the Hozon paper direct to a specific Osafune Yoshimitsu and the seller just give his main working period.

A Request for Translation ,but Please Don't Cry
DoTanuki yokai replied to drac2k's topic in Translation Assistance
Thanks and yes all my handles are removable because that is what I’m used to. I don’t think this style of handle is a Limitation the chopping knife with the black red rayskin wrap survived some very hard abuse by one of my friends. Wood alone would be weak but rayskin is impressively strong and the Fuchi and Kashira also make it stronger. There are reasons they used this design for centuries. But after thinking about this more I wouldn’t feel comfortable changing even a piece like this. -
A Request for Translation ,but Please Don't Cry
DoTanuki yokai replied to drac2k's topic in Translation Assistance
I would have done it in thr seax shape and even more in this one, Moving the tip Up to the top of the Hamon. But to be honest I think I would have turned the Nakago in a mekuginuki and Saiha the blade in water I also though Seax first but I don’t like the broken back ones. -
Question regarding Gimei signatures & dates
DoTanuki yokai replied to AdamH's topic in General Nihonto Related Discussion
I think forgers would do everything they can to fake something. A smith for example could make a whole sword just to put another smiths signature and date on it. -

Just my google translate skills “Even now, I still have the passion given to me when I was a non-commissioned officer. When I was a junior high school student, I was given a special promotion and was awarded for my work regardless of normal times. Although the first lieutenant was a physical instructor, he used the Order of the Rising Sun, 6th class, and the gold of the meritorious rank. By the time you become a captain, you will probably have been awarded a higher medal, so why not wear the captain? Therefore, the Rising Sun badge is used even in peacetime, and the Sacred Treasure badge is used in wartime. (Historian Ichiro Ota) ■How to use a dagger other than a person (89/2 ) I made an illustration of each of the materials I obtained in response to Mr. Tsutsui's question. and age pattern” -
If you don’t want to have the blade without any protection I would say you watch this video that describes how to make a Saya out of newspaper. I would advise to store the blade without oil in the newspaper saya to prevent any reactions with the ink. It should be stored in a dry environment. I think early edo is a good call from looking at your blade. But unlike John I would say the bigger tips of the Nanbokucho revival are a Katana trait while the big Kissaki Wakizashi are seen a little later. From Markus Kantei series: “Certain renowned master smiths from the advanced early Edo period also made some flamboyant wakizashi. These were mostly made on special orders and are wide and impressive, that means they don´t follow the then Kanbun-shintô-sugata, and usually show elaborate horimono. Representative for this trend was for example Kotetsu.” https://markussesko.com/2015/04/20/kantei-1-sugata-8/ An example of the shape from Hizen Tadayoshi. Some smiths are faster with following a trend and others take longer so all this time frames are a little fluent.

I have just realized that the double flower pairs are always the same… -
Hi Dan, the small Tatara outcome i have seen ranges from ~ 3-10kg per run. So even for the same smith the Tamahagane can vary from run to run and how he refined it. So I would guess that this Technologie won’t be of much help to authenticate a Mei but how the found sword was made is definitely interesting.

I think the picture is too blurry to say what technique was used. Maybe a few sharp closeups can help. I think it looks good as it is. -
Maybe just make a short YouTube video, 5mins that the people should watch when they are new because it will be much better to understand in my Opinion. I was already planning to make some videos for the German speaking Nihonto interested because I can not stand the bullshit videos that German dealers make about Nihonto and their 300% profit margin selling blades from Aoi

I think the future of virtual reality will be a real-time AI generated world for your needs. But first programmers will replace themselfs with AI what I think is hilarious People that order their food on a daily basis destroying their own economy and poison themself with cheap full of sugar optimized gen food. (yea the same stuff that makes apples stay longer fresh is what people react allergic on) While the next generation get lost in trivial apps and internet pornography. (Also this will be Ai generated and has already started) But I’m cool with it it is like Ernest Hemingway said: There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow man(AI); true nobility is being superior to your former self. But back to topic. I don’t know of a specific app to track your media but a simple database or excel could work for me.

I always think it requires some skill and Balls to make swords like this Maybe this blades are unlikely to break but won’t survive that many polishes. So I think there are different reasons to make Ito-Suguha, artistic or for battle depends on the period. A friend of me owns this Hizen Tadakuni Wakizashi with Ito-Suguha.

Can we see some pictures of the blade ? Thanks

What’s up with the Habaki and the Hamachi and Munemachi ? Does the Habaki only slide to the first notch ? Can you make a picture of the Hamachi looking from the edge and maybe the same from the Mune. So that we can see how thick the blade is there. -
