  1. Hello, Adding to what has already been said, keep in mind that a ware like this might just as easily open up even more when put to polishing stones. If you must, consult an experienced polisher before and not after.
  2. Hello, Persian knife, then it would only be worth a Persian knife price. Very skeptical at this point. Return policy?
  3. Hello, This is the nakago-jiri to an o-suriage Kamakura period naginata-naoshi katana that was refinished. If I'm understanding this thread correctly, this would be referred to as Tenshō-age, correct? Thank you.
  4. Hello, At this point I would second Brian's suggestion of having a window inserted before going ahead with the full polish. While any number of polishers can do a window, if there are no problems (including a good mei), suggest getting this piece into the hands of an excellent fully trained polisher.
  5. Yes. The quality of the nanako on the kashira and condition would be troubling to me as well. None the less, still enjoy looking at this set.
  6. Hello, Overall a quite respectable piece. Agree, the shibuichi looks to be of excellent quality, plus the mei cut, too, to my eye.
  7. Hello, 1. Please sign your posts as per NMB rules. 2. Try reposting/reloading images using 'more reply options' as they are not opening. Thanks.
  8. http://nihontocraft.com/Juyo_Token_Yamato_Hosho_Sadaoki_Tanto.html Interesting little tanto, not like one that I've seen before with this hada (only on longer swords). Would have expected to see larger nie being Yamato, learned something new (to me).
  9. What good friends are for. Lucky stiff!
  10. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UgcxGFmYyPs sorry, couldn't resist.
  11. Hello, FWLIW, Fittings in general require a significant amount of study not unsimilar to nihonto; age, traditions, schools, quality of materials, quality of workmanship, and so forth, all of which goes towards determining value, even before you begin understanding individual pieces such as kozuka. And just like with swords, fittings will have a history of originality versus damage, repair, as well as reconditioning that must be considered and carefully assessed (preferably before you buy), it's never easy. All of these factors combined with the desirability of the piece itself and the individual maker go into determining price. Kozuka, especially very good ones, tend to be pricey. My guess would be mostly because there is a steady demand for kozuka and the truly art pieces are few and far between. Don't be discouraged, learn from each experience. As with nihonto one of the keys for learning is looking at as many of the best examples possible to develop your eye and knowledge. fyi, https://archive.org/stream/japaneseswordmou16guns#page/n0/mode/2up
  12. Brian Tschernega located on the west coast u.s.a. also does excellent repair work .
  13. Congratulations, much to appreciate.
  14. Hello All, Would enjoy seeing any images of your treasures you'd like to share, especially fittings that did well. Thanks again for continued posts.
  15. based on the Kashira, would say Hamano for F/K.
  16. Luis, Your comment is out of line and a deflection from the main point being made, often what is not being said is as or even more important when discussing nihonto issues than what is said. The sooner this is realized the better off all involved will be.
  17. A good number of criticisms could easily be made here not the least of which is encouraging amateur polishing, a forum no, no, but I won't.
  18. Thank you to all for sharing your experiences and to those still to come.
  19. Hello, Curios, is 76 + points in the NTHK NPO point system considered equivalent to NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon? How did people perceive the Chicago shinsa (point) results, low, spot on, high-generous? Years ago Allan H. Pressley would write up great reports on the NTHK shinsa results including such things as pass/fail numbers, the results and his thoughts on swords he submitted, all of which was very informative especially to novices like myself at the time. It would be nice to see a similar type write up again. Thank you.
  20. Kodachi? Signed, ubu, 76 points, mitsu mune, on the short side but still katana, this could be a candidate for a "good polish." Would very much like to see images, please and thank you?
  21. Preliminary, shape looks earlier, Koto.
  22. of sword.
