Hello! I took a picture of the nakago and of the whole blade so that the sugata may offer some help. Here's where I am at now: It is a Tanba no Kami Yoshimichi. It does not have the Kiku mon (which is said to be on the tang in the Kyoto branch), and the small middle stroke in "kami" is pointing downwards, which is said to be how the Osaka smiths did it. But I cannot deduce the time, the generation. The sugata looks like early / middle edo to me, but i am a very very very beginner, so that does not say much :D Any inputs are much appreciated. What do you guys think? thanks, SZAB

Hi, I was wondering if there is a collection of known Kao of Sayagaki. There seem to be some better known Kaos like that of Mr. Tanobe Michihiro (Tanzan), or that of Kunzan and Kanzan, those would be relatively easy to find (not authenticate...). But what about all the others? How would you even start researching? It is of course about the sayagaki I am trying to decipher. Is there a list of some sort of the know monograms? thanks, SZAB

Hm, one thing bugs me. The kogatana has the mei Shizu Saburo Kaneuji... I found one Kaneuji who was the student of masamune and a lot of Kaneujis in the nihonto kanji pages swordsmith database,. One of them is more or less the contemporary of the maker of the Wakizashi, which would make sense, who is a chu saku and it says: Shinto, Mino no kuni (Genroku:1688) Chu saku noshu ogaki ju shizu saburo kaneuji I am willing to bet I do not own a kogatana made by masamune's student :D So I think "my" Shizu Saburo Kaneuji is the one above. Now what do those things mean? "Mino no kuni" and "noshu ogaki ju"? Szab
