  1. It's like it has been coated in something and the coating is wrinkling? To my eyes it looks like the dot inlays are real.
  2. I had feelings of the same, would be good to get more opinions
  3. Yeah, the last one I quite like also!
  4. It looks a lot like a potash style patina, that can flake off and give different degrees of blackening. As a beginner into Tsuba, Id guess not original?
  5. I was wondering this myself... great examples in this thread, makes me uneasy posting any of my own collection

    Iron KOZUKA

Hi Jean, I'm sorry I cannot help with school or maker, but I'd like to confirm it is not ugly. I'm quite drawn to it that little bit more because it is Iron also

    Tiger Tsuba

That's a great colour on that tongue! I like the Tsuba as a whole, quite a lot.
  8. Amazing! and a treasure for sure
  9. Interesting Tsuba! It seems there are dot inlays in the waves?
  10. Apologies I cannot really answer your questions, The Tsuba below has fire damage, but I assume it would have been something along the same lines.
  11. Yes, I guess what I meant is, was it created with that in mind, or, created to be 'kept up' with maintenance (to not be black)
  12. Good question Krystian, I wonder if any Tsuba which is inlaid with silver should have a dark patina. It seems strange that a metal such as silver would not be kept 'shiny'.
  13. Im glad you posted this Robin, great colour choice! I think I know who is doing your Tsuka, they do good work
  14. Thank you Moriyama san, very much appreciated! seems I was quite a ways off!
  15. Hello All, this is my first post here and first time attempting a translation. I was given a simple Tsuba with signed kiri. I have no idea if the box is the original to the Tsuba, but the box itself is reasonably old. My first attempt at a translation (with help from Jean) is: Kiyo Yoshi Kiyo Nobu (Wakasa) I figured I have miss translated as I have Kiyo twice... but I have no idea. Thank you for any help you may be able to give.
  16. Krystian, I can give simple answers to those questions, but I think there are infinitely more experienced people who will be better answering for you. Instead, Id like to share with you the Tsuba I was gifted for some simple CAD work.
  17. Im wondering similar things, I was recently gifted one which seems quite different to most.
  18. San mai? Is that a bamboo sekigane? Following thread
  19. Sorry to ask this, im having a dense day and Im having trouble following, but the general thought is engraved (not cast), and new/recent (not antique) ??
  20. What a great video!

    Tenpo tsuba

Looks great in your hand Robin, that Tsuba has single handedly (no pun intended) made me properly interested in Tenpo
  23. Hi All, I recently aquired this Tsuba which I wanted to share. It fitted in well for my collection as I was after something dragon themed and a little different to my usual mokko/round collection. A lot of the gold inlay is missing but there are some remnants in the recesses and a few specks here and there on the Dragon itself. There is a bit of rust around which I dont think is too active. What really drew me in though, was the lobed shape. Although I have seen other Jakushi with a similar shape, none that I have seen have been as pronounced, or severe. The other draw card was that the carving seems quite defined compared to what I have seen on other Jakushi Tsuba. Cheers
