  1. Both tsuba are cast fakes. From the same mould, and modern. In fact this is pretty convinving evidence as exact duplicates like this would ahve been impossible in the past. The mould I'm talking of would have been a rtubber one (taken from the original tsuba) and this was used to create a wax copy. Note how the nakago ana on both are identical. The gold traces on the ebay sample is probably just paint.
  2. Lee, your sacrifice for science paid off I think your picture illustrate the point much better than a thousand words spent on the subject.. ...amen
  3. Very interesting. Both for sale here: http://www.herrickstamp.com/country_sta ... as_stamps/
  4. We discussed this tsuba a while back here: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=10258
  5. OT: he did much better picture than I on the tsuba I posted here time ago: http://www.giuseppepiva.com/index.php/t ... tsune.html
  6. Keep it Piers, it represent the feeling of the person who gave it to you, whatever it is
  7. Near the end of the second part: "can I put it down?" "no no no" cracked me up

I hope the intresting topic doesn't go off topic even before starting though :?
  9. Mine wasn't even described.. what should I say :D Other pictures here Dear Piers, as you know, this tsuba of mine wasn't originally meant to enter the competition, it was my present for you. I am sorry for the delay... when they will send it back it will be sent to you
  10. Well said Ford. Congratulations to all board members who participated.
  11. whatever. I'm quite tired to read your posts in any case
  12. but you can make a stop! Just another piece of worthless junk. If you want to buy a tsuba, get one here: viewforum.php?f=4 and please stop opening other thread for asking opinions about garbage. It's not my usual language or style but you really need to step up now. You have written just 20 post less than me but you have been on this forum for less than 5 months.. no progress, just a lot of posts :|
  13. Thank you Jason, yes I was referring exactly to the things you pointed out. In the picture you posted that things aren't noticeable. And, you are welcome! (for the translations )
  14. Jason, can you post a full picture of the origami and also a detailed picture of the place where the tsuba photo is attached to the origami? Judging by what is visible, I have some doubt about the origami.
  15. Yamagane-ji 山銅地, sukidashi-bori 鋤出彫, ke-bori, 毛彫, ginrozogan 銀露象嵌, uchikaeshi-mimi 打返耳, kata hitsuana 片櫃孔
  16. Heisei 10+6 = 16 and the last kanji means year. Year 2004 The part you didn't translate yet is just a list of the techniques displayed by the tsuba, after yamagane you read sukidashibori, kebori and so on.
  17. Curran, you are not understanding me. I KNOW about the sanmai and I see this one is, BUT there are examples with holes where sanmai is not the reason, and that is what I am asking about from the beginning
  18. Thank you Thierry. Remains the example where the tsuba is not sanmai; if nobody else have anything (nothing? Now I am scared to make mistakes) to add then should we consider the holes a westerner addition that has nothing to do with nihonto? Best, Lorenzo
  19. Where/was Do/does... This these Will never learn to use this? Properly
  20. Lorenzo

    Any comments?

Welding a nakago there should delete few centimetres of temper. Judging by the pictures, the geometries are very off; seems that there was something wrong there and the polisher tried to hide it in some way.
  21. 4 topics for the same sword makes difficult to have the whole image .. one here for the sword, the second here for the mei, and the third here for the shirasaya. Here is the question about what Jean says: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=10590
  22. Dear Ian, why apologizes? not needed; we was talking about the same tsuba Ok. so. To proceed with the discussion, we should now know if Thierry tsuba is sanmai or not Best, Lorenzo
  23. Brian is right. Gents, once more sorry for my English. Please blame my parents and the Italian school system, but not me for being such a lazy man who don't study
