  1. In Japan, Gendaito, are Showato ( meaning, made in the Showa period) and Gunto, are what we call in the west, Showato.
  2. My Dad was in the Airforce. He was at the surrenders in Borneo. He said that after the surrenders, a raffle for any swords left over would occur. He missed out.
  3. Without any photo's, your guess is as good as mine.
  4. Kitae Ware. Doesn't look good.
  5. Hadori, doesn't necessarily enhance a Hamon (sometimes it hides the Hamon). Depending on the Hamon type, quite often Sashikomi, is better.
  6. I'm fortunate to have a Daisho, by Kozuke Daijo Sukesada. I posted photos on another topic. I will have a look and get back.
  7. Depends on the smiths. Known fakes, Sukenaga and Sukekane.
  8. Looks like a Seki Showa to. The Mei, looks freshly added. But hey, one can only go on the photo's.
  9. If it's special order, Generally, Special orders, don't have stamps. Saying that, I've seen a special order of a Showa to, with the owners name on it.
  10. I think it just depends on the smith. If he thinks it reminds him of a Tachi, he signs Tachi Mei. Same for Katana Mei.
  11. Tamba (no) Kami Yoshimichi.
  12. I'll go along with Brian. Blade looks to be a Gendaito, at least.
  13. Brian, do you have any more photos of the blade?
  14. Yes, sorry, now I see it.
  15. Dharmachakra, is actually the Buddhist wheel. Above is a Dragon wrapped around a Vajra (ken). The Vajra, represents the ability to cut through ignorance. The Dragon represents, wisdom.
  16. Which Gen? 2nd Gen not worth as much as Ist Gen.

    Masterpiece

I believe Adrian bought the sword, from a collector in Tassie. It came in a Gunto mount.
  18. Tadayoshi, One and two, were both Very competent smiths.
  19. Kanenobu, as with many Showa period smiths, did many styles.
  20. I think he means a more Flamboyant, type of Hamon.
  21. Nijimei are also considered to be by his own hand.
  22. No matter how hard one tries, one can't make a silk purse form a sows ear. This blade is a Showa to. Yes, the sword has probably been folded, however, it's oil quenched. So no matter how you look at it, (I don't like the term, Arsenal Blade) it is what it is.
