  1. Thank you all for the replies. It looks to me like it is significantly shorted and I could see that being because of some pretty serious corrosion.. I attached some more pictures trying to get the Hamon
  2. Attempt at a better picture of the hada

Wondering if it might be recent o suriage and is there any significance to the notches in the tang? As always any help identifying would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much guys

  7. Well put Brian! I am the 1st to say it is always unfortunate to not hear what you want to hear out of an opinion but can't say enough great things about this site and the invaluable resource it is. Also would go further to say there is nothing else like it on the Internet and am disappointed to hear people saying bad things about such a valuable resource.. As has been said already if you don't want to hear opinions don't ask the question otherwise I think one should be appreciative of the opinions of the members of this board.
  8. Thanks for the info and links. Bought it from Benson, he thinks it might be a late kanemitsu school blade. Cant wait to see what shinsa says about it..
  9. Got the old papers in for a Daito I recently purchased that is already headed to Japan or probably in Japan by now for new shinsa but wondering if anyone can translate the old papers? Of course I know the gist of it but will be wondering the line for line translation likely forever so I thought I would ask and see if anyone has the time to help. Thanks as always
  10. Thanks Brian. Attempt 2 Keep having the same problem that essentially is trying to take pictures INS up turning it shiny silver white gritty looking
  11. the never ceasing questions.. can anyone tell me the hada type? I've been trying to get pictures and trying to see it in different lights but keeps showing up more glistening than in hand... I assume that to be intermittent nie?
  12. Thought I would try for a better picture. I do not think anything is broken off of it
  13. Understood. of course I am much more interested in the sword but again find it all pretty interesting. Look forward to seeing if Bob will work on it
  14. I appreciate it. Beautiful sword. Good luck with the shinsa!
  15. also came with a saya in bad shape with this 2 piece kogai. First for me so fun as well.
  16. also wondering about the tsuba.. It used to have some kind of gold decoration running along the side but it seems to have been lost to the sands of time. I definitely like the wood grain and figure it is nothing special but wondering if it is shin shinto as well
  17. told i general forum it might be tadahide.. thoughts?
  18. told it may be chu no tamashii in translation section
  19. or i thought so anyway.. ill try again
  20. reoriented.. thanks
  21. I appreciate the replies and would love to see some pics of the masayuki if you have any for comparisons sake
  22. To reiterate I very much appreciate the knowledgeable opinions of yourself Luis and those that join you to teach we lessors in the field. For me I do not really get into this for monetary gain as much as I do for the collecting idea. I have been called something of a black hole in that once I get something I pretty much keep it.. I will have a nice estate sale one day..
  23. Again I appreciate the advice and respect the knowledge. Difference of opinion i.e. Not everything in the world for me is about money and some things deserve to be treated differently. I think it's a sad thing when these swords fall by the wayside because they are not old enough or not by a famous maker. I understand it from a monetary aspect but looking at the world as not only monetarily based it makes me sad.. But again I totally understand the point of view and understand that you disagree with mine. Of course I would have been happier if everyone said it was koto but again beautiful things are beautiful And I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder as they say. Good luck with the supra!
