Hi boys and girls while watching the sale of the katana by Kasama Shigetsugu today on eBay it got me thinking why some of Shigetsugu’s swords forged on the estate of Tōyama Mitsuru have an inscription stating made on the estate of the venerable Tōyama Mitsuru while other swords forged by Shigetsugu on the estate have the hot stamp of Tōyama Mitsuru ,were these swords made as gifts? Did other smiths who forged swords there use this stamp as well ,Curious to here your thoughts some pics of the hot stamp. cheers Chris H

  5. I have also had a good experience buying a sword from Eric on Facebook, I found him good to deal with excellent communication and the sword was well packaged with prompt shipping I would certainly buy from him again.

  10. Hi Bruce the photos are quite poor but I couldn’t see any stamps but he’s going to have another look so I will get him to check the guys telling him it’s traditionally made.

Here is an example of an Ono tsuba I bought from a board member signed Shimomura Fukushige I was wondering if it’s made in the style of Yagyu with the wave theme, it’s pretty heavy for its size it is 8mm thick at the rim and measures 75mm x 65mm the iron seems to have a sandy texture looking forwards to hearing you thoughts.   14. My first sword was a wakizashi by Hoshu Fujiwara Masayuki, Bungo Takada school I was seventeen at college and bought it off my mates dad for $100 he told me it was good steel as he had opened a tin of baked beans with it😆I still have it.

  17. Hi guys a friend of mine recently acquired this Japanese axe which I think is a carpenters axe, it has a couple of kanji stamps any assistance on what they mean is gladly appreciate and your thoughts on what the axe is for. cheers Chris H
