FUJIWARA KANESHIGE This Katana is also a WW11 Shin Gunto in civilian mounts.Could do wit a polish but overall pretty good. I may be taking a bit of license here but I believe the Kanji reads 1: Nosh (?) 2: Seki (Seki) 3: Ju (Resident of) 4: Fujiwara (Fujiwara) 5: Kaneshige (Kaneshige) 6: Saku (Made by) The hot stamp suggests the katana was made using the Kobuse method) Traditional I'm looking for $2300 Au Also for pick up in Canberra

JIMA KANENORI This Katana is from WW11 Shin Gunto signed I believe by Jima KaneNori. In need of a polish if desired. contains a Seki Arsenal stamp 1943, complete with Officers Tassel. I think the detail includes. 1: SAI 2:Shiyu 3: Nin 4: Ko I believe the above refers to (Steel) 5: Jima 6: Kane 7: Nori 8: ?kore 9: Saku the above referring to (Jima KaneNori made this) I'm looking for $2200 Au for this one, once again pick up only in Canberra.

INABA TOSHIZANE This Katana is papered to Inaba Toshizane also known as Minryushi Toshizane Connoisseur's Book P: 295 Hawleys 35 points Ref: TOS 354, I think I got that right. It is in very good polish and contains a couple of pin size forging floors and a slight area on the cutting edge of the blade extending for 33mm which did not come up during the last polish. I'm asking $5000 Au which is what I paid some 10 years ago. This is only available for pick up in Canberra Au. Cheers Chris

SOSHU JU TSUNAHIRO I'm going a bit strange in my old age, sorry, spell check doesn't help. The Wak has a few small forging floors but is in good polish, although not physically named, it went to Shinsa a few years back and received papers detailing the maker as I believe Soshu Ju Tsunahiro 10th Masahide. I'm looking for $1550 Au but am negotiable for appropriate Tuba. Unfortunately it is for sale in Canberra as I wish the buyer to be completely satisfied with the purchase. Sorry for the crappy photo's, Chris

Thanks Grey, all seems a bit extreme, if somewhat interesting to a collector. I guess you are right, I cannot think of another reason but i do think it detracts from original intent. Chris
-
Certainly some great ideas here, I think it would be fun to go back in time and talk to the makers of some of these fittings and discover what their view are on the motif's they create. Chris

I can't think of any other reason Stephen Chris

It is certainly different Ray, I guess it's horses for courses, personally i prefer the open work. Chris

G'day all. I often see a tsuba that has the Kogai-hitsu-ana and or the Kozuka-hitsu-ana filled in but i have never seen all the cutout sections of a tsuba filled, is there a reason for this ? I have a couple of examples from from the Touken Komachi website but i'm unsure if it is appropriate to post them here, anyway, the link is below for those who are interested. http://www.toukenkomachi.com/index_en_kogatana&tousougu&youhin.html Regards Chris

Lovely piece there Bruno, many thanks Chris

Thanks guys, yep i've always found it to be a bit of a mystery, i have no doubt that it is original and was at some stage mounted but that's about the extent of my supposing. Cheers Chris
-
Nice one Dave, so the motif must be fairly common and i think Georges comment on the Doormouse seems more appropriate. Thanks to all for your comments. Chris

Yep kinda cute ay Chris

You are a gem Bruce Chris

G'day all, this is the first tsuba that i collected a number of years ago, I posted it to the forum at that time but did not get any reply regarding the school or form. I believe it is copper and the sepia dai shows the marks of previously mounted seppa. I would really appreciate a starting place on this one if anyone cares to comment. Cheers Chris

Cheers guys, great conversation from all, I guess the school remains to be seen perhaps Hizen at a pinch. Sylvain, i think your link and picture come very close, unfortunately i cannot read French so the information about it is still a mystery but thanks anyway. Chriso

I just saw, what I think is a lovely Daisho pair from a Japanese Antique dealer and although it's out of my price range, it's driving me nuts trying to come up with a school. The only info given is that it is Edo period and the motif is Squirrels on a grape vine.. any ideas would be greatly received Cheers Chris
