On the shin gunto i would say yes, it would hurt the value, on a plain wooden saya i would say no, but a picture would help.

I would like to agree that WWII swords have there own large group of collectors for decades now and the prices are going up every year it seems, there are exceptions, prices do level off from time to time, but the trend is higher prices, my guess is this will go on until the baby boomer's are gone, hopefully many years from now. hehe I have bought many WWII tanto's (pilot), i have paid as low as $40 many years ago for a good one, but now for the same tanto, i have seen some of the very nice ones sell for up to $1000 believe it or not, with many lesser ones selling in the $500 range, prices leveled off for lesser ones to $300 when the market was saturated on Ebay last year. History costs and it comes with dreams on the battlefield where gunto swords might have been used. I know this makes no sense to many on a Nihonto Forum, but it makes no sense to the military collector paying $10,000 and above for what would be called a real Japanese sword (Nihonto) that was not used in WWII.

Cheers Kevin, i was not worried after i read the posts above and as far as Paypal goes, i have gotten money back from them when i didn't receive the item a few times without any trouble at all. Getting money back through Paypal on items that are not what they were described as is of course a different matter all together.

I am waiting to get a sword from the real fwic2803 on Ebay, paid through Paypal, so this thread put me back for a minute or two. I would not pay any other way then Paypal though.

I could have gotten it, but i'm on hold in the spending department right now, did i miss a deal or not? A deal the way i look at is, if you could get your money back if you sold it right away, that's a deal IMO. BTW the FUCHI-KASHIRA look a bit off to me, maybe aftermarket? No milt, the color is the same, the only thing different is the gold filled chain and silver signature, the rat is a dark black, the fish are all a even dark gray which has a nice patina.
