  1. Thanks Franco. Likely the passage (about the Kanji) I remembered. To be blended with the Fujishiro's one : "KUNIYUKI RAI [sHÔGEN 1207 YAMASHIRO] KOTÔ SAIJÔSAKU He is the founder of the Rai Ha, is the son of Kuniyoshi, is called Raitarô, and is the father of Raimagotarô Kunitoshi. He is said to have signed in the beginning with the two kanji of Kuniyuki, and to have later inscribed the three kanji of Rai Kuniyuki, but I have not seen this three kanji signature. Along with Magotarô Kunitoshi, he made equipment to fend off the foreign invasions of Bun'ei and Kôan, and it can be imagined that they were diligent in making mostly swords. He made many tachi with a wide body and hamon of choji, ko-choji, and ô-choji with deep nioi, and bôshi of ko-midarekomi. Signature: KUNIYUKI It is said that the father of Kuniyuki was a man of Korea, that he became naturalized and was called Kuniyoshi, but this is not clear from his works. It also says in the Kanchiin Hon, "His forefather kaji came from Korea, and had the Gô of Raikuni". A Rai linealogy chart is shown below. (Kanemaru and Tsurakage are mistaken for names on tachi of Kuniyuki) . The chart reads as follows, reading the columns top to bottom, beginning with the right hand column. 1. KUNIYOSHI, KUNIYUKI, KUNITOSHI, KUNIMITSU 2. KANEMARU, KUNIMATSU 3. TSURAKAGE, DAUGHTERS, KUNITSUGU RAI HYÔEINOJÔ
  2. Hi all. I remember taht a lot of time ago I stumpled in some writings about the korean origin of the Rai school founder. Today I had to face a thread on another forum in which I found this sword : http://www.swordsofkorea.com/sword7.htm Seems to me to remember that one of the suggested points about the possibility Rai Kuniyuki was from Korea (either a Japanese born in Korea and then returned home or of full korean roots) was a detail in the first character of the signature. To be fully honest I have no more evidences of what I remember so I'm kindly ansking if somebody out there can provide me further info about the origins of Rai Kuniyuki, better if with bibliography or sources that I can buy. Thanks for your replies if any. Carlo EDIT : Nihonto Koza and Fujishiro already read, thanks...
  3. I would add my Senpai too, that worked for the Castello Sforzesco Museum in Milano and still works for the Stibbert Museum in Florence as well as collectors from several countries. His name is Marco Quadri and works in Bologna (Italy). The polishing of the Chu Aoe Ietsugu (+/- 1390 a.D.) nicknamed "Kaminari" in the Stibbert is his work. He's just returned from Mishina to refine his Hadori. If you are interested in get in touch with him to discuss the matter please let me know sending me your e-mail via PM. He dislike to have a website, even if I've already prepared one for him, hosted on my personal site : http://xoomer.alice.it/tsubame/Web%20Ma ... FRAMED.htm If it doesn't work go here and click "marco" : http://xoomer.alice.it/tsubame/ZZZZZZ_SHARING.htm Let me know and have all the best. Carlo
  4. Depends on the wounds and the treatments. I had a wound from corals in Seychelles. No more diving or swimming to maintain medicaments on place. I think I had a similar reaction to a different source...
  5. Guido, well... Firtsly I'm happy to have pushed out that mororn after his claim for a couple billion dollars for his Honjo Masamune... And then I'm linking this thread to the one on Samurai Archives. A great explanation that should be read first hand. I've read the excellent article you've prepared with Dr. T about the Japanese sword for Antonio's catalogue. I wonder if you're making this aarticle about Honjo Masamune a public one as the previous I've mentioned. Anyway thanks for the kindness and sorry to for any trouble caused. I wasn't aware of the situation. Have all the best.
  6. Guido, following the original thread on Samurai archives forum Steve stepped with the boots in the dish, and I realized who he was. When unveiled and challenged to discuss the matter here or on SFI, he got extremely rude claiming what you are saying about his sword. He still challenge you about real name of Masamune, blah blah blah, and ask me to go to Japan to study Masamune's swords in order to have credibility to rebut his statements. I'm lost with him. I still remember posts he made almost hijacking a thread on SFI, but noone cared about them. What the heck is happening ? Where is this guy coming from ? Why the heck he's not following my suggestion in putting here his claims ?
  7. Understand and agreed. Thanks for the link. It's really a time-machine.
  8. Regards, Brian Hi Brian. Thanks. I'm happy to know the info are still around on several HD. Too sad so much great sites vanish with the info in them. What about a page reporting the titles of articles no more available on the net but stored on private HDs for sharing under request ? Cheers.
  9. Thanks Guido. Now I understand because the article is no more available at my original link. if you don't mind I prefer to live with the illusion the sword is still around. Too much pain to think it has been melted with a million other crappy ones...
  10. BTW... The only thing I've heard about Honjo is that it was offered to several dealers in Japan but always refused as it was a "stolen" object and so the owner BURIED it and now lives happy somewhere. Likely a mix of Stephen King and some Anime story made by a teenager...
  11. Hi Guido. So many thanks for the info. I've found this oshigata on an old link regarding important NihonTo lost (stolen...) during the occupation and I was wondering about the meaning of "Honjo". I assume you refers to some sort of fraud I'm not aware of. I took it from a link that I'm no more able to find, even if I've fully saved the info on my HD. A google for "Honjo Masamune" gives today only wiki-like craps and anime.. After your comment I woder if this Oshigata has some meaning or not. The original article(named "Important missing NihonTo), as I've saved it, shows many pictures of other blades still missing, as Juyo Bunkasai Wakizashi signed Soshu ju Akihiro and the The formerly missing Juyo Bunkasai tachi by Bizen Kanemitsu so i assume wasn't from a moron, even if I've not saved the original author's name (the moron is me here...) .
  12. Hi Nigel. No info of the actual meaning ? it should be the name of this lost sword.
  13. Hi all. My very poor NihonGo make me unable to say if the first two kanji hereunder read as Hon-Jo. Can anybody confirm/deny this ? Eventual translation ? Many thanks for the replies, if any.
  14. Thanks Brian. A gentleman as always.
  15. Hi all. I ask forgiveness from Moderators. This multiple post is intended to reach the largest possible audience and is made in several fora, so is a “standardized†one. A set of 3 Japanese swords bags in natural silk fully lined in synthetic material, kindly offered by the fellow forumite Shaun Reid, has been added to the Auction in favour of Genise Graham Surgery in SFI Classified Forum ( http://forums.swordforum.com/showthread.php?t=68467&page=3 ) Here is a preview of the items : More pictures, full details of items and rules for auction at the link provided hereabove (please scroll down…). Details about Genise here : http://forums.swordforum.com/showthread.php?t=68402 Thanks for your time and forgiveness. Carlo Giuseppe Tacchini
  16. As I'm really sad for having been forced to renounce at a nice Jumonji Yari very few time ago due to major restructuration works at my courtyard I'll have to face off, I really need to share at least this one. I would like to have feedbacks about the signature. It should be made by SAD 595, but I was told that he was as drunk as good at making swords and signed in a lot of different ways. Thanks in advance. Please click the numbers after "Sadanori" : http://xoomer.alice.it/tsubame/ZZZZZZ_DOWNLOADS.htm
  17. Can't say the period of your Menuki, but with the help of my friends Matt and Emmanuel from http://forums.samurai-archives.com/viewtopic.php?p=8944#8944 I think to have found who is portraied : Quote... Kintaro, the Golden Boy possessed of superhuman strength, killed a giant spider with a tree trunk as a weapon. Kintaro's mother was one of the mountain spirits known as Yama-uba. She was also described as a mortal devoted to her warrior-husband. Kintaro was described as a beautiful child with golden skin. Brought up in a mountain retreat with only animal friends for companions. As a small boy he could uproot trees with only one hand. He wrestled with bears for excercise. He used his wisdom to adjudicate when his animal friends wrestled to test their strength. ...unquote. The pictures in the link are the ones of Raiko-Yorimitsu, later the friend of Kintaro.
  18. Totally skipped about that... horse races too, damn... Thanks.
  19. Hi all. Once I read on another forum a thread about a Tachi made to celebrate the manchurian sword factory or possibly the manchurian railroad. Now I've found this one : http://www.michaeldlong.net/Ko-Bespoke/ ... /13/102916 I wonder for which occasions were made such Tachi with Showa stamps. What about the blade and Yoshiaki ? Thanks for feedbacks if any.
  20. Thanks Stephen. Added to "favoutites"...
  21. Totally skipped the second one. Now I got it. A close-up should be of big help.
  22. from Machi, parallel to the Ha or in the nakago ?
  23. Hi MK. A fellow forumite that makes fukuro in pure silk contacted me for putting an item of theirs in the auction. But SFI is now in major structural changes and i've not get reply yet. As soon as i've confirm of this I'll advise in the sticky that was so generously made for this purpose. For now there is a WWII NCO Tsuba. If you mean Japanese cups and bottles I've 3/4 items that could be trown in, but not Konoe (Imperial Guard). Cheers.
  24. Hi KM. Already got a reply from a restorer in another forum Seems it's effetively turtleshell, to him, and he is used to restore turtleshell items. thanks for the concern.
  25. Hi Henry. Seems to me better than others abused I've seen. If it hasn't been heated too much it might deserve to take a better look by a professional. In this forum there are sharpest and more trained eyes for such a thing, so be optimist till to contrary evidence :D .
