  1. Hi Bill. Seems older to me too. As regards your troubles in photographing NihonTo, well you've choose a very hard subject to take pictures of. I think that this link can be useful to you : Scanner works quiet well for smaller parts, and it's quicker : (Great find of Nicolas Rudaz) http://csdl2.computer.org/comp/proceedi ... 80102c.pdf
  2. A good question. Once I've posted on another board the same question after having read "The Art of the Japanese Sword as taught by the experts" by Kunihira Kawachi and Masao Manabe. At page 61 Kunihira Kawachi clearly shows and states how to apply the oil to Nakago too, with appropriate amount (not too much but not too few) and with a different clothe then the one used for the blade. The sword seems one of theirs, so newly made. Avoiding to mention the usuall "I know everything" that addressed me to a link on how maintain a Japanese sword where is shown how to use the remnant of oil on you fingers to very sligtlhy oil an old nakago, the thread resulted in an agreement (?) that old nakago with already well-established patina should be preserved with a slight oiling as the "finger remnants" matter, but that new or not so old Nakago should be left get rusted and patinated. At the end of the matter : if the tang is old enough to risk a damage to important features as yasurime or Mei or other inscriptions/details with potential further corrosion, let's apply a very small amount of oil. If the Tang is new or still healty, avoid oil. I'm just quoting the result of that thread, not stating my personal opinions or challenging somebodyelse one. :D
  3. Thanks Pete. My bookmark is for the books list page only and I can't say how I've skipped this one.
  4. Hi all. Hope this is the right section to post the following. I've bought a book from Koshoyama and I paid, as usually, via bank transfert, adding the amount for the receiver's bank fees. But this time my bank (shame on me I work for it) went further the usual steals it' is used to. To make a long matter short, Tadayuki Yamamoto sent the book to me notwithstanding he lost 20 U$. I've asked for his mailing address to send the money by cash (wantn't think about how much costs a bank transer of 20 U$ to Japan...) but he very kindly avoided to send it to me stating that this was "his fault in fees calculation". I know how to send cash to japaneses without hurting them and hereby I would be very grateful to anybody can PM or e-mail me Yamamoto san mailing address to solve the matter. Thanks for your time and replies if any. Carlo
  5. The more PC costs, the less competition for low-end collectors as me... Let him increase the prices a bit more...
  6. Give them a stencil and they'll forge Jukachoji too... Just now there is a flame-thread on another board because they are advertising one of their swords line is made of Tamahagane. One of the sellers arrvied to say that he has seen blades "with Shoshu den features"... less then 2K U$ mounted.
  7. Great. Thanks Stephen.
  8. Hi all. A friend of mine is searching for a matching fuchi/kashira and Menuki with conch shell theme, better is with a wave, absolutely perfect if mussel(s), katana size. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.
  9. Stephen, great idea Thanks for sharing. Any news about th book it's supposed to be published abouth Nobuhira ?
  10. Hi Bill. At least one is already known to you... :D I'm Tsubame on EAAF and got an e-mail from you recently. Rich addressed you to a very fine source of friendly knowledge from which I've received and surely will receive again, a lot of benefit. A warm welcome from me too.
  11. Books are sold-out , thanks for your interest. Uwe, waiting for reply.
  12. Uwe, another fellow forumite has already paid for this copy and contacted me via e-mail. Can you kindly say me if you've made the payment too ?
  13. Hi Uwe. Offers must be addressed to Genise’s Paypal account, that’s macfrump@yahoo.com. Shipping after Genise's acknowledgement of receipt of offer (don’t forget to quote your name and family name in the details of Paypal payment to let Genise able to confirm me all is in order). Please drop me an e-mail as cinfirmation and with your shipping address at : tsubame1@tin.it God bless.
  14. In order to revitalize Genise's Auction I'm forced to lower the offer for each copy of the Stibbert Museum catalogue to 35.00 U$ each shipped everywhere. It's quiet a bargain as the shpment fees from Italy are heavy. Thanks for your time.
  15. Hi Rich. Congratulations and my respects for having preserved such interesting item. Such a long inscription is worth to be published.
  16. The same reason because of I registered here.
  17. Hi Logan. Mistakes are likely the only thing I can teach in this board. By personal experience : please fight the hurge to buy. The first blade I've bought was, after polishing and shirasaya, absolutely not worth the price I paid. More... with the knowledge your tastes will change. Today I'll never buy again that sword (that's been sold in a loss anyway..) This passion is an expensive one, but IMHO it can be followed even by people that's not billionaire. The key factor is to not loss money on swords that doesn't deserve the price requested. You can even rise funds with intelligent purchases that can be later re-sold at an higher price (that's the way many collectors help to rise funds for a better piece). But this need knowledge and knowledge is the hardest thing to achieve. Harder then money, because it requires time and opportunities that not everybody, for several reasons, can put on the table. My 2 cents.. welcome, best wishes and good luck.
  18. Thanks ! I'll provide a link to the person interested. Many great info on other details of the mounting and great pictures available too, so a link is finer then sheer numbers. Thanks again.
  19. Hi Grey, Hi Geoffrey. I know a guy that is making a Mantetsu's blades factory numbers datatbase. I dare to ask you if you can share the one on your blades. I can ask him to contact you directly if you prefer to deal the matter in private. Thanks for your time.
  20. Hi all. I'm quoting Clive Sinclaire from another board : quote... Dear All This may be of interest to you. On 21st July at the Excel Centre in London's Docklands, there will be a Japan exposition. ...OMISSIS... I will be manning a stand for To-ken Society of GB. This will feature swords and armour, mostly from my own collection so if you come, please say hello. Details may be found on http://www.To-ken.com in the Members section. Regards Clive sinclaire ...unquote. It may be of some interest for UK residents and other as well. Thanks for your time.
  21. For what it's worth, Paul helped me A LOT several times even spending on his own pockets and without expecting anything back from me. Give him time...
  22. Just don't say here that you've paid 35.00 U$ for this blade...
  23. Paul, as far as words manipulation, I really can't say who is the most able : politicians, lawyers or journalists... BTW, can't you make a miracle for me ? Just a Rai Kunimitsu, nothing too difficult...
  24. Andrew, on SFI I've clearly stated that this is not implying the other one isn't right and that was just what my poor sources quoted. It's not so simple, really... I lack oshigata to compare with, as said on SFI, so your best chances are to find here someone with one of those very good enormous books full of Bungo Oshigata ...
