  1. There were several generations between late Muromachi and early Edo period. My impression is Shinto.
  2. This looks like a gassaku made by Bungo Shigeyuki + Tomoyuki, or at least that is my impression from the ninteisho.
  3. I believe it is Hidemasa.
  4. I saw these photos in your previous post. When providing an inscription for translation, it is best to show it in a single clear vertical image. My request was to show other clear images of the sword.
  5. It would be helpful to see additional clear photos. There are several generations who worked from late Muromachi period to early Edo period. http://sanmei.com/co...katana-Koshirae.html
  6. Taira Moritsugu
  7. Noshu ju (rather than Bishu ju).
  8. Another example is Toshi. 寿 - Shinjitai (new form) 壽 - Kyūjitai (old form) https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kyūjitai
  9. Nathaniel, what you are seeing is the modern form of the same kanji. Some kanji have evolved over time and the modern version are used for attributions even when referring to an inscription that used the older form.
  10. A correction, the date number in the Fujishiro example is obscured. Karyaku started in 1326. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karyaku
  11. The white paper is a scan from a page in Fujishiro koto hen. It show a dated example of Naminohira Yukiyasu made in Karyaku (1326). This is much earlier than the date that was attributed to the sword in the sayagaki (Naminohira Yukiyasu circa Hōgen = 1156 保元). The current NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon kanteisho attributes the sword to Ko-Naminohira (no specific swordsmith).
  12. Appears to be a showato arsenal blade. This is a smith from the gendai smith Hizen Yoshitada.
  13. Looks like Yoshitada dated March, 1945.
  14. The blade is signed Tomotsugu. It is unclear which specific smith this is.
  15. Thank you Michael, I was not aware that the Toshiro had been revisited as far as saiha. Separate to that specific sword, there is an openness to award juyo and higher to a sword that is felt to be saiha (if it is otherwise deserving and an important reference example).
  16. Juyo Shintogo Kunimitsu (saiha) and Tokubetsu Juyo Toshiro (saiha).
  17. Noshu Seki ju Yoshisada saku

  20. A skilled sayashi can craft a rough tsunagi based on the shape of the koshirae and then adjust to fit by seeing where the tsunagi has contact points. I have done this process myself. It is achievable without the original blade to work from.
  21. Agreed, thanks for the correction Steve.
  22. The blade is signed Nagayoshi. The tsuba is signed Shoami Sadashige.
