This appears to be a showato arsenal blade by Tsuguhiro. The blade itself dates to the 1940s (as you indicated). It is not a fully traditionally made Japanese sword, but is an authentic antique of that time period.

It appears to clearly have a boshi in the photos above. The kaeri is not very clear but I do see the boshi. Are you saying that it is missing in one part of the kissaki, or that you are not seeing the boshi at all?

Yes, it is authentic (otherwise I would have indicated in my response). It is best to have a professional polisher evaluate for restorability.
