I have been living in Japan since 1980, but now that I am retired, I spend four and a half months in Oakland, California from the middle of June until the end of October. I am a director and shinsa member for swords and fittings in the Nihon Tôken Hozon Kai. When I am in Oakland, I give the kantei lecture at the Northern California sword club meetings and also provide kantei information for the monthly Northern California Zoom kantei meetings. I am currently working on a book of oshigata and histories of late Muromachi period Yamato smiths, which I expect to publish in 2025.
