Hi,
I know that Royal Mail will not allow any type of bladed item to be shipped now, but today I arranged for DHL to come round and pick up an African antique sword to go to the USA.
They turned up, then said no, as they will not carry any type of sword, dagger, Etc,.
What is going on ?????????????????????????????????????
God Bless the UK

Your tsuba got me digging in a drawer.
This is one that I put down to Satsuma school, early Edo period.
Dia 8.06cm, Nakago ana 3.1mm and Dote mimi 4.9mm.
And yes, I know, photography is not one of my skill sets!

This is my favorite Hamano tsuba, it is signed by Noriyuki II and I love it because it is understated.
The work has gone into the iron plate, yet the simple tree and rocks give the feeling of life like landscape.
Less is more, in such a small space as a tsuba, it must be difficult to express feelings without creating overkill.
I have no artistic ability, yet as an engineer, it is easy for me to see how difficult it is to form metals like this.
How much did the artist have a say in what their customer wanted?

The two on the left are close, the Hawkshaw is not the best pictures
I enclose scans from Joly's "Shosankenshu" 1963 Ed. (No.257) and Hara's "Die Meister" 1902, (page 59)
Hope this helps

Due to rust, I have photographed the barrel as best as I can.

I have brought this mystery tsuba.
It is well made, signed, copper with a silver mimi.
Yet plain, unfinished on the otherside.
Anybody recognize the signiture, it would be great to get it finished.

Hi
Here is a Shishi menuki in gold
The reson for the two different posts is more to do with them coming adrift from the body and being replaced with whatever the repairer has, who looks at the reverse of a menuki?
