Hi, Can I pick some brains on this board please. I have a copper tsuba with a super patina to it, but at some stage black paint has been spilt onto one side. I need to clean it off, but wish to keep the original finish. Would paint stripper ruin it? David

You can not ship anything out of the UK anymore. EMS is Royal Mail/Parcelforce, as soon as they pick it up on xray that it is a sword then all hell let's loose. I tried to send an 18th Century flintlock to Canada the other month, Fed Ex picked it up, I tracked it to Canada, where customs then said unless I had paperwork from the maker, I could not prove it's age??? Fed Ex then on returning it, stated that they do not carry any item, antique or otherwise which is a firearm. I think it is time to start stamp collecting............. David

David Thank you, that now opens an interesting line of research. Regards David.N

Hi I posted this a few years ago and the only idea to school was Jingo. Can I put this back into the pot and see if thee are any other thoughts please. Regards David.N

This has been, yet again, a very interesting thread. I feel sure that we need Dr John Lissenden to add his thoughts on the subject regarding this tsuba. One thought I did have was regarding it's manufacture, as we know, some Namban tsuba were produced outside of Japan. Could this be an example? The maker using a theme that they knew? Just a thought. Regards David.N

Hi, I have this rather crude, heavy iron tsuba. It measures 73 x 80 mm, the mimi is 7.76mm thick. There are traces of an engraved/punched decoration of circles around the border. Could this slot into Jingo school? I say the above due to the size difference of the ana. Any ideas, always helps along the path of knowledge. David.N
