  1. That is a long handle... sword might be metal but hard to tell with the pictures given. Practice sword seems right. P.S. I would not be doing any testing or training given its condition.
  2. I agree one size does not fit all. To each their own. I prefer a trained togishi opinion as they know more about the correct choice. I had a gunto in original polish, and asked the polishers opinion and options and why he would suggest one over the other. An interesting conversation, I agreed with the polishers opinion and explanation. Sashikomi was picked and the outcome was fantastic.
  3. Hi Bruno, I have NTHK Kanteisho, from the 2019 Tampa, shinsa held by the late Yosikawa Eiichi. I would like to see what it gets now with a fresh polish, as it is shows so much more activity. The hada is quite interesting and more activity in the hamon can be seen. https://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/18610-show-us-your-high-class-gunto/?do=findComment&comment=408049

  5. From what I see I would not trust it.
  6. Well done Okan, I would also have guessed shinto from the shape.

Looks like a good find, congratulations
  8. Thank you Jan! All good proverbs, especially as I struggle with my studies from family issues. Motivation for sure, coincidence maybe...
  9. Thank you Moriyama san. Are you saying it derives from a Chinese theme or proverb and is not done by Japanese artisans?
  10. Looking to be a good show, will try my best to attend. What day is the Soshu Den exhibit?
  11. Hello all, when it comes to Japanese art I am a novice. Bought this at a garage sale I happened to drive by. Any thoughts on the translation...
  12. Nice set, way to go!
  13. Congratulations, looking forward to seeing the pair.
  14. Intersting, I see he did not wrap the stack before making the billet and the anvil was wet throughout most the process.
  15. Agree with most opinions, fittings, nakago... are just not right. Do not think island made.
  16. Also looks acid etched.
  17. Congratularions, looks like a nice find! Agree with Ray, on all points
  18. I can make out some hada activity in one picture. But the dark line with the hamon and other items leans toward as John, states, possibly folded but oil quenched. Could be a bad polish or age and use hiding more details. Also, photos are hard to do, take your time with light and camera at different angles, no camers flash. Will leave this one to the more knowledged.
  19. I agree, looks oil quenched. Also the patina on the nakago looks off.
  20. Not a translator, a better photo might assist. Also try removing the powder to the Chinle marks only. Someone will be along to assist.
  21. Thank you @Okan! Took me three years to find the right one. Many boxes needed to be checked after learning from here, others, and at shows. I should have submitted for Juyo, while it was still in Japan. But, the Koshirae build took that budget away, and my impatience. Maybe one day...
