  1. The owner wishes to sell this, and give money to the widow who gifted it.. As I have no real expertise in this area what are your opinions on price?
  2. I did say looks like, not is. More photos were needed. In any event, congratulations on your Sword! Also thanks for the good replies, so many yasurimei to learn lol. That's be an intersing file for that yasurime, the deep grooves and spacing.
  3. It looks water quenched, maybe special order. Could use more photos of the hamon, Koshirae, and the tassel.
  4. Sometimes you must grow thick skin, I learned that as I was trolled by someone no longer here or changed names when I started. In addition, to harsh but constructive critism I used for learning where my knowledge lacked, and studied. From the outside lookong in it seems you have taken some advice and done a little study. Nothing wrong with a slow learning curve about a complicated subject. For now I would SITFU, listen and absorb, peak your study from reflecting on questions and/or answers given even criticism; you can also google and find most answers to your questions... which most time lead you to intersting forums here, actual sites like the NBTHK, and some rabbit holes. Congratulations on your sword! Just my advice, otherwise we are
  5. Very nice all the way around, congratulations!
  6. Same here with the pictures given at the time, it happens. I had many guessing back older as well, with impromptu kantei, was a RJT smith. In any event cool inheritance and a piece of history you have.
  7. @Grey Doffin, do you have the handy how to care for swords link available? I see most corrosion looks stabilized, bur best to be safe?
  8. The sugata, suggests possibly some earlier period. As stated more pics are required.

What is on the end of the nakago? Looks like some weird orikaeshi...
  10. @Mark, apologizes you are correct! Was thinking back to my first show for some reason... I have corrected my response; thanks.
  11. Nihonto is a blue ocean, I wish you luck. Best to attend the show in Orlando, if possible. Books are good for reference and remembering some things; hands on with questions and study is invaluable.
  12. Too be fair, all I have read of this and other threads, you have received honest and non disrespectful replies. Some constructive criticism maybe, still not disrespectful. In these threads you are given advice and opinions, however seemed to ignore most all of it; only to repeat the same. The babbling comment and a weird Trump rant/tangent show disrespect for yourself as well as all those who have tried to help you; and this subject area. I gave a +1 as this thread was about a specific sword, and discussed thoroughly and morphed. Hence, I agree it should be closed. A new thread on what educational material would be best, is appropriate.
  13. All good, thanks for the heads up!
  14. Whoops
  15. Thanks @Bugyotsuji, corrected.
  16. More pics.
  17. Hi all, Had a gentlemen bring me two swords to look at one was NCO gunto. The other is Cavalry which I know nothing about. Any observations are more than welcome. Was in rush as it took a little work to get this one out, apologies for no assembled pictures.
  18. @Japan2112 how many gokadens will be covered?
  19. Just a guess as to the name, suppose mounted as tachi, long koshirae, opponent expects a long draw. Opps timing is off as it is short giving the handler an advantage. Sneaky like a fox. The howling or crying might be due to the shape/bohi and makes a sound on a hard swing, or leaves the opponent howling/crying? @Ed, congratulations on seeing this in person it is a very lovely sword... I am jealous.
