  1. Same here with the pictures given at the time, it happens. I had many guessing back older as well, with impromptu kantei, was a RJT smith. In any event cool inheritance and a piece of history you have.
  2. @Grey Doffin, do you have the handy how to care for swords link available? I see most corrosion looks stabilized, bur best to be safe?
  3. The sugata, suggests possibly some earlier period. As stated more pics are required.

    Tsunatoshi blade

What is on the end of the nakago? Looks like some weird orikaeshi...
  5. @Mark, apologizes you are correct! Was thinking back to my first show for some reason... I have corrected my response; thanks.
  6. Nihonto is a blue ocean, I wish you luck. Best to attend the show in Orlando, if possible. Books are good for reference and remembering some things; hands on with questions and study is invaluable.
  7. Too be fair, all I have read of this and other threads, you have received honest and non disrespectful replies. Some constructive criticism maybe, still not disrespectful. In these threads you are given advice and opinions, however seemed to ignore most all of it; only to repeat the same. The babbling comment and a weird Trump rant/tangent show disrespect for yourself as well as all those who have tried to help you; and this subject area. I gave a +1 as this thread was about a specific sword, and discussed thoroughly and morphed. Hence, I agree it should be closed. A new thread on what educational material would be best, is appropriate.
  8. All good, thanks for the heads up!
  9. Whoops
  10. Thanks @Bugyotsuji, corrected.
  11. More pics.
  12. Hi all, Had a gentlemen bring me two swords to look at one was NCO gunto. The other is Cavalry which I know nothing about. Any observations are more than welcome. Was in rush as it took a little work to get this one out, apologies for no assembled pictures.
  13. @Japan2112 how many gokadens will be covered?
  14. Just a guess as to the name, suppose mounted as tachi, long koshirae, opponent expects a long draw. Opps timing is off as it is short giving the handler an advantage. Sneaky like a fox. The howling or crying might be due to the shape/bohi and makes a sound on a hard swing, or leaves the opponent howling/crying? @Ed, congratulations on seeing this in person it is a very lovely sword... I am jealous.
  15. Or you can come to the show, attend exhibits, listen , learn, ask, and the hands on knowledge is extremely valuable. I usually attend every year with my Nephew. Last year I I brought two swords where I had questions, started asking these questions to those who are knowledgeable and learned many new things. Plus I now have contacts who are extremely knowledged in different areas for when I have questions.
  16. Ok done prepping, cleaning, and re-reroiloing, seems not as thick, or plush. Fibers seem the same. Could be because I bought a smaller size... IDK. Still works like it used to.
  17. Agree, have noticed this throughout Nihinto.
  18. No stash, just using the best I can for my swords. Due to the high humidity I will clean and oil 3 times a year. I used amazon.co.jp to order these. I oiled them yesterday, will give it some time to sink in and try these. Weird as one time I gave the swords a wipe down and seems they had stabilized rust or something off them grey on different clothes. P.S. also special occasions and demo I use these as part of the process or for people to examine the blade. Other cloths, microfiber, tissue, etc... allow finger oil to reach the blade.
  19. Arrived today, red used to be the large . At least I bought three.
  20. Per my understanding, a uchigatana was a mid to short Wakizashi. Explictly made to be used one handed for a secondary sword (if using two in battle), but to be the first sword to draw and strike or block. Unless you are Mushashi, using both at normal size made for two handed welding is very hard to do. I have practiced this style (Nitō Ichi) with boken so much respect to those who can.
  21. Sword shows are great for learning! There does seem to be corrosion, possibly stabilized, but none the less it is there. This brings into question how deep does it go... Seems like a good togishi could fix that. Then, there is the question of which Sukesada. Koshirae looks new. To me I would pass. Save for something in better condition even papered. Either way good luck, and Merry Christmas!
