Presentation and knots per occasion
Ooitame replied to Ooitame's topic in General Nihonto Related Discussion
Thanks @KungFooey, apologizes for the unusual question. Trying to still learn things I know little of, such as presentation rules.... @ROKUJURO Interesting, I have places to store them, not drawers though. I have a decent case where the 2 swords reside in bags, and shirasaya, says in another safe area. If others have an interest or curiosity to see and learn history or just for knowledge sake, is it still bad manners to display; that is to say keep them in the case and sword bags or no? @Peter Bleed Interesting recollection thanks! -
Presentation and knots per occasion
Ooitame replied to Ooitame's topic in General Nihonto Related Discussion
So no one displays their treasures for occasions? By display I mean in a case or kake etc.. -
Hi all, Was inspecting the saya and shirasaya. As I am hopefully on the path to purchasing my first home, what are the traditions for occasions e.g. new house, family for dinner for holidays, or whatever etc... What if any presentation rules exist, forgive my ignorance, I only wish to learn. Even if not strictly traditional that's cool what are your thoughts?

WW2 Gendaito Katana by Ichihara Nagamitsu
Ooitame replied to Swords's topic in General Nihonto Related Discussion
Mei + sword potential/condition... Atleast for me, for Showa Nagamitsu the signature is not 100% guaranteed; of course there is much information on this. Which leaves us to the sword. Is there a good condition/potential, arsenal marks, numbers, katakana, koshirae and so on. Generally speaking, most Nagamitsu I have seen are done in a Bizen style. -
"Japanese Gunto" currently at 400 dollars
Ooitame replied to John C's topic in Auctions and Online Sales or Sellers
Knowledge should be shared, learned and understood, and sometimes questioned, well done on both sides! -
As an update, both swords are sold. Thank you all, donation to the board upon receipt of funds.
-
Thanks for clarifying @Bruce Pennington!
-
Buy one get the NCO for free, lol. It is the Nagoya black Saya one I posted. The sword here shows much promise. I would like to just buy the sword on its own merits, but I respect the owners wishes for a good cause. If sold through here donation to the board as well.

I like Nagamitsu RJT, signature looks legit, same with yasurime, thanks for sharing! Looking forward to more photos if possible. @Bruce Pennington can you point out the faint saka stamp?
-
Thanks Steven. What would a set with this sword and a type 95 NCO go for? Guy wants to sell both as a pair as they were brought back this way. He's asking 1400...
-
Agreed shiny is bad!!! This does seem to have a very slight gloss but nothing that could reflect.
-
I will try to get better photos tonight. The black aluminum handle threw me off. I do think the paint is period, and a real gunto. Are there certain areas I should focus on?

@DoTanuki yokai, thanks was trying to keep it high level.

Not a bad piece, look up kizu and/vs ware, this looks more like ware from time and polish. Hard to tell via photo, first pic and last pic inorder look like loose nice nie maybe well... down the road some handa, nothing a Togishi can not handle. Second looks to be nie exposed by polish. A nice blade.

Hi @Swords, what are your collecting goals, miliaria, before Meji....? Briefly discussed below. https://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/47318-cavalry-with-mon/

The owner wishes to sell this, and give money to the widow who gifted it.. As I have no real expertise in this area what are your opinions on price?

It looks water quenched, maybe special order. Could use more photos of the hamon, Koshirae, and the tassel.
