  1. I have owned many of these over the years and the one that started the thread look like a minty original to me. I also think Geoff's is a nice original. As Thomas mentioned there are many found in fine condition with all the gilding intact! Condition has nothing to do with age and all to do with care and storage. when judging these you have to look at quality and natural patina. The last one posted is an example of the lack of quality the new ones have.
  2. I had a funny one. The kid at security wanted to take it out and show the pretty young ladies working at the counter he knew a lot about Japanese swords, but got it home.
  3. They are real.. Last ditch swords.
  4. One might also note aside from the obvious gemei signature the low quality koshirae.
  5. Looks good!
  6. I think I'm pretty safe in saying this will not sell at the prices listed.
  7. Darcy, There is a term for reddish orange color on these fittings. The Japanese call it kin sabi (gold rust) and from what I understand it happens on older gold fittings. Its not something you would want to clean and it can be achieved artificially.
  8. I've used saran wrap for many years but I oil the blade first. Works very nice for better swords!
  9. You might have just noticed it but Its been strong for a lot longer then just recently. They have a broader appeal to more then just the snobbish true Nihonto collector. They are also much easier to understand. There are lots of military collectors that just want one or a few examples of Japanese swords in military mounts.
  10. This is the only one I have now.. Ive owned several of these along with a few variants of the copper handle. Here is the sale link! http://www.militaria.co.za/nmb/topic/19564-nice-type-95-copper-handle-nco-sword/
  11. Maybe you could post photos here and we (the board) could certify it as an antique. On a side note: I'm not sure why you guys in these countries dont throw the goofs out of office that write these ludicrous laws! Sorry if my short rant distracted anyone from my main point.
  12. I am always surprised by how shocked some people on NMB are when rare items sell for a lot of money. The immediate conclusion seems to be that the buyer is an amateur or they are a fool. All the long prices have continue to rise on this stuff.
  13. Beautiful tanto Ed! I would be very happy with it!
  14. Here is my last copper handle nco sword which I'm going to sell. It's a reissued one like the example in Fuller & Gregory's book but what is really interesting about it is it appears that the original serial numbers on the scabbard and blade matched.
  15. Hi Mike, Not sure if he is a member here but Woody Hall has some nice sets for sale right now. If your on facebook you can contact him there.
  16. More specifically the same hand! Very nice!
  17. Hi Bruce, Yes! Here is a full photo of the sword.
  18. Well it has Nei and some other features of traditionally made blades but doubt its made with Tamahagane.
  19. This one I own would probably really stir the pot!
  20. Its not fake. Its an early arsenal blade. These are always in high quality fittings.
  21. It was a wonderful time! Thanks again to Mark and his family for putting on the show!
  22. James, I love it that the hawk and monkey tsuba I sold you is one of your favorites!
  23. I have one with a hozon paper by the NBTHK.
  24. I will be there! Same place against the wall with the shelf.
  25. I got a few out of there through a friend. Nothing stunning, All the ones I wanted and circled in the pics he sent me were sold on Friday night. My friend went Saturday morning. A lot of the blades were in poor condition but price decent. There was no rhyme or reason to the pricing. There was also some great native American stuff there but is was gone by Saturday also. Wonder whose estate it was??
