Thanks for the response Km and Mark,
I was guessing Early Shinto and and thought it was worth alot more.
I'm still unclear on the value of a suriage blade.
If it is valued at $700 now, what would its aprox value have been before shortening?
Simon
G'day All,
I am about to make an offer on this sword however I am unsure about the value due to it being suriage with the koshi-hi and gomabashi now being partly hidden.
All comments and observations as usual are very welcome.
thanks Simon
Thank you Jacques, and Nobody
Your posts have some interesting information
This wak was for sale as a 19th century sword, but I guessed something older
and liked it being O kissaki.
I will add a few more photos which show its obvious need for restoration
Cheers Simon
Hi guys
I was just wondering if someone could confirm my translation.
I have come up with " Bu Shu Shimohara Ju Yasushige "
And does anyone have a comparitive mei or input on this smith?
Thanks Simon
I would just like to give a big pat on the back to the guys at “Luluâ€
Recently our mail man decided the only way to fit my book in the mail box was to snap it in half first!
I reported it to Lulu and had a quick response and a new book a week later.
Simon
Thank you for the information,
I was also unsure about the last kanji.
I have stared at the tsuba for some time trying to see any blueish tinge but all I see is brown, brown and more brown
Grey
Is the blue colour I'm looking for similiar to that of mild steel when it has been overheated?
Also any ideas on the age of this tsuba?
Regards Simon
Hi All
I am trying to learn a little about hada and wanted to ask if the hada in this photo is a result of over polishing .
I look at it and think its tired but am not sure( not looking to buy it by the way!)
How would this blade be described? Hada, hamon, nioi etc?
Thanks Simon
I just had a wakizashi listed on ebay removed and the only reason I can think of is I ticked the " will post to England box "
Could that be right ?
Simon
Hi
Thanks for the information Richard.
Now I'm a bit wiser to what it was !!!
I will contact the seller as I did ask for extra photos ( NMB Training ) so he may send them on and I can post them.
Here's the link Stephen http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... :IT&ih=016
Maybe a NMB member bought it ?
Thanks Simon
Hi All
I have just watched a double edged sword go up on ebay and just as fast get taken off.
The owner was flooded with offers.
The oricale (google) shed little light on exactly what is this strange blade?
Is it rare ? Valuable? I would love to know a little about them.
Attatched is the auction photo.
Thanks Simon
Stephen
No i didn,t know the seller and being in Australia missed the auction end.
You were spot on,that one day listing had me worried too!
I wonder if it was pulled due to a scammer or its another auction hijack which seems to be happening more and more.
Simon
Hi All
Just a follow up from my last thread,
I was wondering if anyone has any information or oshigata on a mei
"Izumi no kami Kanehisa"
Thanks again
Simon
Hi
Thanks for the help guys.
I have tried looking for some information on "Izumi no kami Kanehisa"
but cannot find anything on the net.
Does anyone have any references or oshigato for this swordsmith?
Simon
Hi guys
Once again I have come up short in the translation game.
My latest is a "beyond help" wak I picked up for study.
After many hours on the net I have come up with
Izumi no kami ???? maybe ending in hisa but would appreciate any
hints or help.
Thanks Simon
Hi Stephen
I took your advice from my last post and ordered
John Sloughs book but haven't recieved it as yet .
The name Akihide answers the the price tag question.
Thanks again
