  1. Nice Blade!! I knew I'd seen it recently http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Japanese-sword-k ... 2a04a49ea2 Simon
  2. David, I,m in Victoria and have had lots of swords from overseas( mainly the USA ) I have never had a problem, apart from GST My understanding is that as a registered collector or member of certain knife clubs, I am entitled to own and import swords. The only restriction one needs to look out for is bring in a moroha zukuri etc as double edge weapons( daggers) are banned out right. Simon
  3. phunixx It certainly looks like a nasty reproduction, probably Chinese and I dare say, not that old. Simon
  4. Have to agree with you mattr, Looks like an O suriage with mei added later. And, no offence to the seller but would you let a $20,000 blade go for $2500? I would be sending it to Shinsa if I thought it had the slightest chance. Simon
  5. Hey Mark, I would go with "Yoshisada", the last kanji doesn't look like masa to me. cheers Simon
  6. Sorry Joe but it looks like a chinese copy to me. Simon
  7. Thank you for the imput gents, Sorry i only have a scan from the owner (at this stage) and thank you very much for the translation Moriyama san. It is as always very much appreciated. I have put the owner onto this great site so hopefully he is reading this !! :D Simon
  8. Hi everyone, I have been asked to help translate a mei however it has beaten me! I believe it may be by "Amahide" as the hot stamp matches but I cannot get anything else. Thanks again Simon sword quest.pdf
  9. Just ordered one and they are now discounted to $40.95 :D Simon
  10. Last two Kanji might be Masatsugu? There was a Gendaito Hizen smith, not sure about one from Seki. Good Luck Simon
  11. Thanks everyone once again for all the information. Seeing how others reference a smith is very helpful and am glad i recently purchased a "hawleys" from a board member( still in transit) Cheers Simon
  12. Thanks again guys Here's a much more interesting photo of the omote. I think I have got it but am unable to find any references. Signed "Yamashiro Daijo Fujiwara Kunihira"? Gimei The Hira kanji has two strokes that seem to be going the wrong way.Maybe it's not Hira? I would appreciate it if anyone had an oshigata to post. Cheers Simon
  13. Thanks for the help guys, Here's the habaki. I dont have the sword in hand yet so cannot do any better photo wise. Cheers Simon
  14. Hi George, I forgot to mention that the habaki also has the last two kanji crudely etched into it. Maybe its some sort of “stocktake”? I originally thought it might have been a patriotic slogan. Thanks for the help Simon
  15. Hi guys, Just wanted to know if anyone can shed some light on the mei/kanji in the attached photo. Its really strange looking and I,m guessing was added by someone later. I think the second one is "kore" and the forth "shi"? It is on a very rough wak that looks like its in satsuma rebellion fittings. Thanks Simon
  16. Geeeez Joe I think you've tapped into my ebay watchlist! Simon

    Is it fatal?

Thanks for the replies I am hoping to put this blade into Shinsa in Sydney and was unsure. Is it ok to submit blades with such a flaw ? The blade is signed Etchu no kami Masatoshi. Simon

    Is it fatal?

Hi Guys, Once again I would like to ask for some valued opinions on this unpapered wak. The flaw appears on one side only The question - is this karasuguchi fatal? Are they all classified as fatal? Thanks Simon
  22. Thanks for that, I will get back to the seller and see what happens. Cheers Simon
  23. Hi All, Has anyone heard of new rules regarding sword sales from the US of A ? The statement below was quoted by a seller on ebay " ALSO NO INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING DUE TO NEW USA EXPORT REGUALTIONS. WILL SHIP ONLY WITHIN THE USA. THANK YOU." Thanks Simon
  24. Hi All, Going on the recent thread about " flaw -ware " is it a given that unsigned shin shinto blades are all of a lower standard? Thanks Simon
  25. Just for the record The price range for negotiation was $1500 US + ( Which = 1.5 million Aussie dollars ) I actually thought it might have been early shinto, oh well, back to more studying for me ! Thanks again Simon
