Hi, I have just been offered this blade and would appreciate any help with the sayagaki . Date ooks like 2nd year Keicho, but the first three characters have me stumped, the fourth is a possible "michi". Could the first three be a town inscription? Thanks Simon K

Thanks for the information guys, I had seen an Ujifusa that had similar traits but Kanewaka or Mishina never came to mind. It has one, possibly two fukure so it's probably not worth a polish . Thanks again Simon K

The nakago on this blade is unfortunatly rusted but the rest of it is OK. I would appreciate confirmation on my own translation and help with the kanji on the right hand side which has got me totally stumped. I believe it is signed Izumi diajo fujiwara ason Kuniteru...............maybe. It is dated Tenmei second or third year The blade has a nagasa of 695 mm, sori of 15mm and a hefty kasane of 8.2 mm. I think this sword is strange for a few reasons 1.Whats left of the shinogi ji appears to have very course hada, was the mune/shinogi ji reshaped to remove ugly open grain? 2.The reshaped mune is uneven 3.The colour of the nakago is very red, maybe the lighting but? Simon K

Update- I have just received this sword and again would like to please ask for some help in translating the other side of the saya. Unfortunatly the habaki and tsuka have been glued on with what looks like shellac ? Its certainly not rice glue Thanks Simon K

Thanks for the replies guys, Well after a couple of emails in the last hour , one of which I mentioned comments made etc, there has been a Christmas miracle! Seller has found a USPS office that knew what they were doing................mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm .Now it will be sent to me for $50 USPS. Thanks for comments Simon K -
Hi Guys, Has anyone in the States heard of USPS dramatically increasing its postal charges? I just purchased a wakizashi in shirasaya viewtopic.php?f=15&t=14624 and the owner claims she has been quoted $297 to send it to Australia. She has tried three different postal offices? And EMS? The USPS site calculator works it out at about $55 so I’m confused. Thanks Simon K

For anyone interested there is an auction in Melbourne on October 6 & 7 which has over a dozen swords in it (see link) Items 689-702 http://www.australianarmsauctions.com/ The Nagamitsu is mine and came to me directly from the vetrans family and is a nice example of his Choji midare hamon. Any help with a translation would be greatly appreciated, I think the kanji for Tokyo & saku kore is there but as for the rest, I am stuck. Also I notice some of the kanji appear to be poorly chiselled, possible due to the swordsmiths age? Ura = 4th year of Showa (1929) Thanks Simon K
