  1. Congrats if it all works out, you have some courage for sure!
  2. That's interesting Robert S, never occurred to me. Would hope they would not sell a sword treated that way.
  3. I think I see what you mean. Good eye.
  4. I point it out mainly for the beauty of the jihada, no horse in the race. My bigger concern is I do think this was up on auction a short while ago, so did it not pass shinsa? Was there an issue? I don't know. I did not save the original auction so not sure on timing.
  5. I do believe this was on auction before recently, so no idea what is going on with that, but figured this kind of activity was worth a look: http://www.sword-auction.jp/en/content/as17539-%E8%84%87%E5%B7%AE%EF%BC%9A%E5%A5%A5%E5%B7%9E%E4%BC%9A%E6%B4%A5%E4%BD%8F%E4%B8%89%E5%96%84%E6%94%BF%E9%95%B73%E4%BB%A3-wakizashi-ousyu-aizu-jyu-miyoshi-masanaga-3rd-generation
  6. Very healthy sword, can't see the details so well with the pictures, but should have been mentioned in listing for sure.
  7. If that seller got that much, I need to sell my swords
  8. Great pictures Ken, thanks!
  9. Can't wait to see the sword!
  10. Interested in the Shinshinto smith Naokatsu, but have had some problems finding examples of his work. I imagine some folks here have a sword in hand or a reference they can share. NAOKATSU (直勝), 1st gen., Tenpō (天保, 1830-1844), Musashi – “Naokatsu” (直勝), “Kazusa Jirō Naokatsu” (上総次郎直勝), “Kazusa Jirō Fujiwara Naokatsu saku” (上総次郎藤原直勝作), “Jirō Fuji Naokatsu” (次郎藤直勝), “Tōto ni oite Jirō Naokatsu” (於東都次郎直勝), “Jirō Tarō Naokatsu” (次郎太郎直勝), “Shōji Jirō Tarō Fujiwara Naokatsu” (荘司次郎太郎藤原直勝), real name Kazusa Jirō (上総次郎), he was born in the second year of Bunka (文化, 1805) and studied under Taikei Naotane (大慶直胤), he married Naotane´s daughter and was adopted into the Shōji family, thereupon he called himself Shōji Jirō Tarō (荘司次郎太郎)
  11. Hi Peter! I too enjoyed our discussions over the past couple of weeks. I am not much of a mei guy, but will check this one out. Some pictures of the blade would be great, I am getting pretty good at spotting masame. As Jean said above, if it's super tight it takes a bit of looking, though it's spectacular and clear on Jean's sword. I am glad you were moved to take the swords out and take another look. Hoping to discuss my friends Kunikane with you when I can get more information from him about it.
  12. Everything above is great advice, and I strongly suggest just getting lost in the Nihonto Message Board search function. I learn things every day using it. It's like a rabbit hole.......
  13. Great eyes Jacques and Peter!
  14. A lost Kunikane........ sad
  15. For a tanto Ed? Maybe Stephen can help. Would love to see one that small!
  16. I grew up in South Lowell, and I can tell you only unsavory characters come from there!
  17. Great stuff all!
  18. Mike Y rules.

    Rabbits

Thanks to my local friend Erick (NihontoNewbie) and as always our Stephen for showing me rabbit themed tsuba. I really like them. Two reside with me currently, and they remind me of something that's important to me. Make me feel good.
  20. With all the eyes this site has, let's see if someone has a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd gen Kunikane they could share. Would LOVE to see one.
  21. Great video presentation! I like the stone theme copper tsuba.
  22. Amazing tsuba from this smith. On Mauro's and others, how does one even work the metal into those patterns? It's amazing.
  23. Thanks John. Love it. Look forward to it Uwe.
