Hello all. Just wanted to post some pictures of a Type 98 Gunto Wakizashi that I acquired recently. It very closely resembles one that I already own that was recently papered at the Orlando Shinsa. Hope you enjoy. Also a translation of the smith would be greatly appreciated. MikeR

Hello all. Please see the pictures of the Same Army that I recently acquired. This is the way I received and even though it came with a Generals tassel that looks like it’s been together it’s whole life, I am not calling this a Generals Sword as I have no documentation. It does have a nice MON AND THE SAYA is in great shape. I am looking for some help on the blade and I will also post it in the translation section if I need to. Thank you in advance and hope you enjoy MikeR

Yes to all of the above.LOL I agree that we may never know what it really is or was but like Alex said it’s an oddball but kinda cool. I didn’t pay a lot for it but they were my original thoughts also. Thank you for your responses. MikeR

Indeed, I agree, you have been very fortunate. Good for you and we also are lucky to have you share them with us. Happy collecting. I think that if you stopped right now with what you have you would be way ahead of many others. MikeR

Love that last one the most. All are great, but that last one speakers to me. Since you have two armies with this type of Saya do you see them much? I have only seen one in person from a distance and a couple in pictures. Thank you for sharing. MikeR

Piers, thank you very much for the information and quick response. It is definitely different. MikeR

Hello all I have a strange, at least to me, what I think may be a Hiya -Zutsu fire arrow weapon. The barrel is made of brass or bronze, it measures 7” from the plug end to the front of the bore. The bore measures approximately.45. The bulb at the end of the barrel measures approximately 1-3/4”. The hex section measures approximately 1-5/8”. The stock is pretty crude and definitely from something else but it functions. Please see the attached pictures. Thank you in advance. MikeR

Thank you both very much. Piers the bore looks to be about .73” or 1.85 centimeters. Jan I added some pictures of the pan and cover, with some other marks by the pan. Also a picture or the marking on the bottom of the stock, in front of the trigger guard. If either of you need any other pictures please ask. I am going to start another post with what I think may be a form of Hiya zutsu (? ) that you might find interesting and any information on that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you both again. Hello all I am very new to the Tanehashima collecting I am asking for help with a couple, what I think are interesting pieces. First is a short rifle, large diameter barrel and bore. It looks like the barrel is held into the stock with copper bands and a large head type screw down by the trigger guard. The trigger guard is made of iron as is the ram rod. It has some writing on the top of the barrel back by the breach and what appears to be a family/clan mon on the stock. Included are some pictures but if you need any others I will be happy to try and get them. Thank you in advance. MikeR

Hello all. I am looking for a copy of the elusive book “ TheSchool of Hizen TADAYOSHI 1598-1871 “ by Roger Robertshaw. I know they are very hard to find but just thought I would put it out there in case someone is done with theirs and would like to pass it on to a nice guy. Thank you in advance MikeR

Ice job John. Looks great. Thank you for sharing MikeR -
Hello all, the first day of the show was a good day. I met some friends from the forum and it was good to see all my show friends from last year. I saw a lot of pink slips from the Shinsa room and a bunch of unhappy faces but as for me I am grinning ear to ear- 4 in and 4 passes. Tomorrow will be the big day and I will see if I can get some pictures to post for those unable to attend

Michaelr replied to Cookie4Monstah's topic in General Nihonto Related Discussion
I will be there with one table, mostly books and a few other items. I think this is my 6/7 show and I am sure it will be another great show. Great show with great people. See you there
