Please let me know when I wanted to buy a similar sword? I think that I would remember. Maybe enlighten me. So then are you saying that everything about this sword is common? It also seems to have two long inscriptions to just say Masafusa. Thank you for your help. Mike

Ok what exactly do I have here? I just posted the Nakago in the translation section for help but am posting the whole sword here for help and discussion. First I have never seen a Hamon like this before. Second the Tsuba appears to have been reworked to accommodate the center lock/release. I have never seen a Sarute that appears to have a small screw head on both sides. The Saya is the early gloss green paint. Now the important part there is two hot stamps a on the Nakago that I found in Slough’s book on page 65 and 98. The one on page 98 has both stamps as does this example. I will attach a lot of picture so be patient and check them out if any other information is needed just let me know. Ok let’s talk. Thank you all in advance. MikeR

Hello everyone and thank you in advance. I am hoping that someone here can help me with a translation and any other information. From what I can find in Slough book the one stamp is Kobuse forging stamp and the other a registration stamp of a new design ( pg. 65 and 98 ) the rest I have no idea. Any help or comments would be greatly appreciated. MikeR

Just my two cents here. Different smith, different blades. Different times, different shape, different designs may ALL lead to Different Weights. I have always been told to take the sword in hand and hold it out, no matter what the weight it should feel balanced. I have held both light blades and very heavy blades and if they don’t balance you feel it right away. I know this doesn’t necessarily answer your question but like I said just my two cents. Look forward to more answers. MikeR

Great pictures. Thank you for sharing MikeR -
Wow Rob you took the words right out of my brain, they hadn’t even gotten to my mouth yet. Alex the only thing that I would like to add is that you said that it is priced Cheap. You didn’t say what the price is but whit all that has been said above if it is still cheap to you, then go for it. We all have some not all correct, or not so great prices that We purchased because they were Cheap. I purchased a Cheap type 98 to have so that a beginner could handle it as I was teaching them the proper way, while enjoying my better swords from a distance. MikeR

New variation of extended/patented ishizuke?
Michaelr replied to RobCarter3's topic in Military Swords of Japan
To me it looks like the bottom ( patt. Part ) looks like it was a separate piece and added on. It just dosent look like it fits correctly and the dimensions look off. As always pictures sometimes don’t tell the whole thing and as always this is just my two cents. Thank you for sharing MikeR -
Kurt, congratulations on both a Great Wife and a Great blade. You are a very lucky person. Place this blade in a place where you can enjoy it every day while thinking about the wife that you have to enjoy it with. I hope you and your wife stay as happy as you are today for the rest of your life. MikeR

If I had to choose from the picture, for me it would definitely be #3. If I had the option to look at them in hand I might make a different pick. Maybe not though, I really like #3 MikeR

71. I have been a military collector for 60 years but only started to concentrate on Nihonto only 15 years ago. Don’t know how that figures into your average but have been very lucky in finding Great Friends in this new and exciting field MikeR

Lucas, I still have all of the ones that I posted pictures of but they are not for sale. It has been many years since I have seen one for sale. Just not something you see every day. Good luck in your search MikeR
