  1. I missed this a lot. Did Ford Hallam make the one with the dragon fly?
  2. Best of luck with this new venture! Mark organizes a great show that treats both attendees and table holders exceptionally well. Just as the Chicago show has grown I expect this one to grow too.
  3. Here are three yari saya that are not plain black. The black saya in the first photo is for a naginata.
  4. Here are the top 10 smiths that I have personally handled. The first 5 are in the top five. The number in brackets is the number I specifically remember. Norishige (5) Go Yoshihiro (2) Masamune (3) Shintogo Kunihiro (1) Awataguchi Kuniyoshi (2) Awataguchi Hisakuni (1) Hasebe Kunishige (3) Bizen Osafune Nagamitsu (3) Hosho Sadayoshi (1) Shodai Hizen Masahiro (many) I wanted to add an Ichimonji but could not take a smith out of the top 10...
  5. The Yakatabune cruise and dinner were a highlight of my trip to Japan. You definitely should want to go. Thanks for bringing back fond memories.
  6. Too bad that there is only one.
  7. My first go to is foam soap used for children. It is gentle and has no additives. I also use an old soft clean toothbrush. Emphasis on clean as you do not want to use any abrasives.
  8. You can also use and refuse cotton to apply oil. A small amount is needed.
  9. The maker most probably did not add the copper inserts.
  10. Castle wall?
  11. It means that there is no hole (ana) for the kozuka and or kogai. The original tsuba was free of these ana. Tachi tsuba are usually ubu as they do not have kozuka or kogai. If the tsuba is remounted for a katana it might get an ana for a kozuka occassionally for a kogai as well.
  12. Me too. I go through on the third try.
  13. Congratulations! Enjoy the rest of the show.
  14. David Thatcher restores armour.
  15. Sadly, you have a Chinese version of a Japanese sword.
  16. 3D print the sword and send that to the sayashi.
  17. The first character looks like Kane.
  18. I think that the lacquer is covering something. The number of layers required to fill that space would be huge. The lacquer looks to be quite new.
  19. Most "nicks" caused by swords have a V shape.
  20. This is not something that I could live with. Chips, pits, nakago, polish, tsuba all scream stay away. Don't waste your time or money.
  21. Welcome guys. There is a lot to learn. Use the search feature to see if your questions have been asked before. If not asked before feel free to ask. Love good questions.
  22. I had a Shodai Hizen Kunihiro that had on the ura the character Yoshi. So the sword was "lucky".
  23. I feel that Ford will get the job done. He had had several setbacks. I urge patience. I appreciate the contributions that Ford continues to make to this forum and the teaching that he does. A member of our sword club ended up winning an award for the tsuba that he made. Without Ford's teaching, that would would not have happened.
  24. 👍👍
