  2. Greetings, I am hoping that there may be one that can translate the details/kanji on this WWII Japanese Dog Tag. I do thank those all in advance. Mark
  3. Ok. I will do as such and thanks.
  4. Jean, I thank you for your response and realize that I didn't clearly identify the Japanese tag in question. It is not a surrender tag but an actual soldier's dog tag. My apologies
  5. Greetings, As a new member I do want to make sure that I dont violate Forum policies thus why I am posting this question prior to posting. I may or may not have noted in posting as a new member but I collect militaria items to include dog tags. So far its been limited to US, UK, Canada, etc; English based countries as I dont speak another language...yet. I would like to venture into Japanese tags but cant translate the kanji. Would it be OK for at least one post of an image of a tag and ask for a translation. Trust me, I'm not training to taint the well as I know the primary purpose is the discussion of swords and fittings. I thank you for your time. Mark
  6. Curran thanks for your replies and PM as well. Mark
  7. Thank you for your response and details. Mark
  8. Good Evening, I apologize if this is the wrong portion of the Forum so Mods feel free to move. I am extremley new to this genre and thus my question of the following scans of a tsuba I am looking at. My question(s) are, is this real as it looks somewhat raw in its appearance. What would be the age/period? Also what do the characters mean? Lastly are the character real or graffiti. If real then what? Feel free to comment or add to this conversation and thanks in advance. Mark
  9. SGJ, Thanks for you reply and information. The katana is listed as a "bring back" by the US. This topic may need to be moved as it is being offered for an asking price of 1400.00 Mark
  10. Here are more details, in the form of scans, as to my question. This sword is being offered on another site and I would like the experienced opinion of the members of this site. Sorry that these are the best scans available at this time. Thanks in advance Mark
  11. Evening, Just wanting to educate myself as to who or what this signature on a sword/katana means. Thank you, Mark
  12. Gentlemen I thank you for the warm welcome and sage advice. Regards Mark
  13. Greetings to all this evening from the Sunshine State. I am completely new to the area of collecting within the Japanese Sword arena. More specifically tsuba. I have been a long time collector of militaria and as such established a fair size library to educate myself of such things. Thus one of my first questions is what book(s) should one obtain to educate oneself on tsuba? Is the field of collecting tsuba filled with the same landmines of those associated with Netsuke? Any information, guidance or assistance is greatly appreciated as I would like to be the future caretaker of such. I say so as we are never really owners of our collections. Thanks in advance, Mark
