  1. Thanks Steve! Very informative. Regards, Ed
  2. Hi Bruce, Congratulations with your new sword. It’s a nice sword. I don’t have Dawson's book but what is the story about this type of sword? Why is the blade chrome plated? I can’t figure out why. Protecting the blade with oil should be enough. Also, the chrome hides all the beauty of the blade and it’s no longer possible to sharpen the blade. This makes it almost useless. It could be chrome plated post-war. Dave already mentioned this option. I have seen a lot of bayonets threated this way, all post war. Regards, Ed
  3. Hi to all, I don't know if this was already posted before. If so, please remove this post. This article is about a restoration project of Japanese armour. It's a nice article and real fun to read. http://to-ken.uk/onewebmedia/Diary%20of%20the%20Restoration%20of%20a%20Suit%20of%20Japanese%20Armour.pdf Regards, Ed

  5. Maybe just another manufacturer or just a simplification to speed up the production. Regards, Ed

  7. Hi Chris, You are absolutely right. The Tsuba with the monkey is beautifully crafted. Regards, Ed
  8. I like to share my search for information. It’s one way to give something in return for all the information and help I get from all of you. I really appreciate it. Regards, Ed

  12. Hi to all, Here you can download 2 nice books about Netsuke (for free). http://www.metmuseum.org/art/metpublications/search-publication-results?searchType=C&Tag=&title=netsuke&author=&pt=0&tc=0&dept=0&fmt=0 Regards, Ed
  13. Hi Stephen, I agree with you. I already talked to the seller that the price can't be determined by the provided pictures. If he wants to sell it he needs to provide better pictures or the price should be dropped dramatically. If the price is dropped it can be worth the gamble.
  14. BTW I don't think the seller wanted to fool me. He fully agreed with posting pictures. He offered me the following deal: ask members of the forum for a fair selling price and take 10 percent off for all the trouble and confusion. Sounds fair but now the big question guys. What's a fair price? Regards, Ed
  15. Thanks to all. I have contacted the seller and he is in shock. He always thought it was a Gassan blade. What will be a fair selling price. Regards, Ed
  16. Not the best picture. If needed I can get a better picture tomorrow. Hope this will explain more. Regards, Ed
  17. Hi Marius, I don't have a picture of the other side. I will ask the seller. Regards, Ed
  18. Ray, As stated in the earlier posts, the Tsuka and de Saya are not old. I don't think the blade is tired. Just poor pictures. Allan, I am also confused. Hope someone can clear it up. If the blade isn't Gassan I pass. Regards, Ed
  19. Hi John, If you already have restored the stock of a antique gun than a Tsuka must be not a problem. I think not that you should restore it. It's a fine piece of history. Enjoy it. Regards, Ed
  20. Thanks to all. I wait for more opinions. Regards, Ed
  21. John, The basic shape of a Tsuka may be looks easy to build but I think it is not that easy. The shape and style needs to fit the blade and the wrapping is much more difficult than it looks. Take a look at the following site http://www.tsukamaki.net/index.html Regards, Ed
  22. Hi Erwin, This wakizashi was bought at the militaria show in Houten. Regards, Ed
  23. And one more. Regards, Ed
  24. I just received the pictures. Not the best quality but the seller is using his tablet. Hope this helps
  25. Hi Brian, That's exactly what I wanted to know. I have tried to find as much as possible about this school but there is not much for sale. I'll wait for the pictures. Thanks for your reply.
