    Bruce Cool stuff there! I think this 福 maybe means 福岡（Fukuoka）or 福島（Fukushima)instead of 福（Lucky）。 Both福岡（Fukuoka）and 福島（Fukushima)has few 陸軍受命刀匠(Rikugun Jumei Tosho) in WW2.

    I noticed something of this type sword(I had 2）。The tang has 2 holes like normal type 3,but the tsuka only has one hole.

    Not a Mantetsu.Balde was made byShowa sword smith 兼義(Kaneuji) with hot stamp,Showa 17 year(1942),it has Specail 若瀨(Ishizuka) Factory made mount 。

    It could be war time repair.Don't think it's prototype though,since it has pretty high number .

    He must have a lots of parts in stock,because it's not that easy to find the koshirae fit the blade though.

    Neil I asked few of my friends who own Yasukuni sword,most of saya was metal,rarely has aluminium saya.They also think aluminium saya specail order .

    Neil I think aluminium saya was lighter and more expensive than the meatl saya.Your sword has higher grade fitting and the colonel tassle ,I assume it was custom order rather than standard. Very nice!

    Bruce Bill's late war type 3 Spg '44 Mnatetsu(セSe 一一四三1143) also flat nakago mune. And Another Late war Type 3 Spg '44 Mantetsu (スSu 二一九）219 ）I found out has same flat nakago mune as well. So,I guess maybe the flat nakago mune was only for Mantetsu in late war Type 3 mount?

    Thoes 2 with flat nakago mune were all in late war Type 3 mount.
