  1. Maybe we should look from a different angle. 石德調之。Seems to be Ishitoku adjusted this. 調 could be 調整 調准-Adjustment This 石德 maybe just a craftsman made some adjustment for this sword instead of a professional swordsmith. And that's why can't find him in the Showa swordsmith list.
  2. It looks like a Chinese made up piece to me.
  3. Chinese fake
  4. I used to have a shorter Gunto.
  5. Bruce It's not one of my Mantetsu.
  6. Anyone check your Mantetsu scabbard before? I never knew there is a number on the scabbard that match the number on the back of the tang until saw this photo today.
  7. The photos of mark is still not clear enough
  8. The stamp is not clear enough. I can read some of it Right:久留米市西町花(田?) Middle:特許出願中 Left:田中(政?)之(助?)(君?) The better photo will help.
  9. That Tsuba looks like modified NCO 's
  10. Bruce Thanks for the comparing photos and welcome back.
  11. I hope they never get that good too
  12. I just have some doubt about this one.
  13. Monkey is not a role model for his son.
  14. Fitting should be from authentic Gunto, but the Kabuto gane has To(東,Tokyo first arsenal)mark on, it shouldn't be on the Mantetsu 's fitting though. And I feel the signature is kind of not that natural as other Mantetsu, especially the 亞& 作. First time saw number (南 180) on the bottom of Nakago match the numbers(180)on the seppa .That makes me a little skeptical as well.
  15. Here is a Mantetsu in China, I think it's possible a high-grade copy(Original Gunto Fitting and Japanese blade with the fake signature). What do you guys think?
  16. There is no toilet paper shortage now
  17. Steve I don't think it's a Chinese fake either. The shape of the blade doesn't look bad at all. But the Bohi and Nakago are a little unusual, never saw any island swords have two holes on the Nakago like Rinji before. It has better looking and quality than most of the Island sword. Could it be one of the swords made in the theater by the Japanese?
  18. Steve I agree with you. Some of these swords are genuine, some not. To me, as long as the numbers on the blade in the right range, changed iron guard, or add a screw on the handel(either wartime repair or later work) is still considering the first pattern but not fully original.Copper Handel with the high numbered blade is not.
  19. I saw a few of these Copper handle with extra screw on the handle before, maybe wartime replacement?
  20. The kabuto gane is kind of like late war Rinji but not the other parts though
