    西田兼守作 KANEMORI (兼守), Shōwa (昭和, 1926-1989), Gifu – “Kanemori” (兼守), real name Nishida Rin ́ya (西田林弥), born March 14th 1883, he worked as a guntō smith died September 19th 1944。

    Zero-sen(零戦） is an Unofficially abbreviated way to call the Mitsubishi A6M Zero fighter in Japan. Not likely it's an official term for crew/pilot gunto though.Never hear anyone use that.

    It was made of 安來鋼(Hitachi Metal Ltd)，not 玉鋼，that's why it has 昭 stamp。 戦前において日立金属安来工場の前身である安来鉄鋼合資会社の伊部喜作らが、松江電灯協力のもと、東洋で初めて高速度工具鋼を電気製鋼で開発したことで近代製鋼においても更なるブランドを確立した。 現在は島根県安来市の日立金属冶金研究所で開発され同安来工場で、先端技術を駆使して造られた材料の強さが求められる刃物・金型、高性能機械等向けの工具鋼を代表とする特殊鋼すべての名称と定義されている。これらは「YSSヤスキハガネ」（YSSはYasugi Speciality Steelの略）として登録商標されている。

    Bruce It doesn't look like the railway tassel to me but looks like the same material as the handle cord.

    John Paul's sword is made by 菊秀 Kikuhide，not 兼秀 Kanehide.

    One is the Type 95 NCO sword. The other one is NOT a Type 98 officer sword, but a Territory-made sword for the puppet army. The tang should be very crude like the photos I post.

    Mal Yes, the smith is 吉原國家, he use 宣威 when he worked in Tokyo first.

    John The small 関 mark is 名古屋陸軍造兵廠熱田兵器製造所関工場 Nagoya Army Arsenal Atsuta Arms Factory Seki Factory's inspection mark. 名古屋陸軍造兵厰 熱田製造造所 Besides make Veihecals, Cannons, Rifles,Machineguns, Ammunition etc , they also make 九五式軍刀（Type 95 NCO Sword)、造兵刀(Zohei-to)、鍛鍊刀(Forged Blade).
